  • Hi there,

We recently applied (following Martyns tips) via https://www.charitycard.com website for a Scout association card. Got the form down and it quotes a BT fee of 2%. The paperwork does not indicate whether this is a platinum card or not. This evening have rung the Call Centre at Dunfermline and spoke to the lovely Nita, who:
    a) Couldn't confirm that our appication was for a Platinum card without a card number????
    b) When we quoted the Press Officer statement from HBOS, she told us that the 0% BT fee was incorrect and all the charitycards were subject to a fee and this was the directive that she had been given.

Anyone else managed to get through this?

I made an application for oh via the https://www.charitycard.com website at the beginning of the month for a McMillan card. OH rang this evening to activate the card. He started to discuss the balance transfer, as the original amount requested was greater than the credit limit. He asked if there was a fee and was told yes. He replied that his wife thought this was incorrect and handed me the phone (whilst he dealt with the barbecue). I was just about to have a discussion, and the gentleman said he had made a mistake, and there was no fee for the balance transfer for this card.

I have received but not activated my Macmillan card for the following reason.

I applied for a Macmillan platinum 0% form 9 months card via the charitycard link on MSE.

I noticed in clause 2.2 of the Credit Card Agreement, sent with the card, that the minimum repayment is stated as 3%, as opposed to the 2% quoted in the agreement I signed up to online at the time of application and as still quoted online.

I raised this point with Bank of Scotland, who have taken 2 weeks to come back to say that 3% is correct and that the website conditions are wrong and that they will be writing to all cardholders.

Has anyone else experienced this? Surely, BoS have to honour the 2% figure? Or maybe not?

The only figure they have to honour is that printed on the T&Cs sent with the card that you signed and sent back.
  • This whole issue looks like a bit of a preverbial balls up. I am awaiting my first statement to see if I was stung by the BT fee. I don't know if the balance can be checked online - any ideas anyone?

As of today, I have not signed the T&Cs or activated the card.

There must be hundreds of other people in the same situation, unless they were so preoccupied with checking the BT handling fee that they never bothered checking the minimum repayment amount on the T&Cs sent with their cards.
  • I applied for a Guide Dogs for the Blind card on Sunday and was approved and given a credit limit there and then. The paperwork came yesterday, the minimum repayment on the website and T&C is 2%, and I have spoken to them today to confirm the fee free balance transfer, which they did.

Lets hope everything goes to plan once I get the card/statement!!
Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!

Yes, HBOS have online banking which allows you to check your credit card, not sure if you have to request it though.

If you happen to already have online banking set up with the Halifax for any other account/credit card (as I did) you can just ring them up and ask them to add the new HBOS card to it, and it appears straight away.

Thanks - will give that a go!

Have likewise just got the paperwork for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Slightly confused.

    1. The box on the reverse of the Credit Card Agreement which I have to sign and send back says (3.2) Our interest rates are as follows:
On balance transfers, related interest and charges is the heading with a side box saying Special promotion rate p.a. (fixed) 0.00% Good.

    2. Further down on the same page it says (4.2) under Key Information
We will charge handling fees for cash advances, balance transfers and cheques, a minimum interest charge, and a fee for transactions in foreign currency, all of which are shown in condition 5. Slightly contradictory?

    3. Condition 5 is not listed on this paper, but it is on the copy of the Terms and Conditions which I keep and it says (5.2) under General Credit Card
Conditions. We may charge a handling fee of 2% for balance transfers and cheques offered at special promotional rates other than a special promotional rate you received when your account was opened. In English this means?

    4. Finally in the Summary Box Information, also included it says under
Charges - Balance Transfer Fee 2% or minimum £2.00.
It does say at the thop, that "this table summarizes our key credit features. It does not replace and legal conditiona and you are advised to rad the full condtions for more information." So, presumably the Summary Box is not accurate.

So, balance transfer fee or not in my Tx and Cs?
