    Craftyshopper,

    Check your PMs.

    Good luck!
  • Did anyone else recieve a totally useless credit limit with their charity card - or was it just me? I don't know if I have been stung by the transfer fee yet or if I will seeing it appears (quite rightly) that I shouldn't.
  • We just applied for a macmillian card, and have called them within the last half hour to be told that there is a 2% fee

arrgghhh - we dont know whether to sign the forms or not now

  • Hopefully, 'thejhw' will update us with the outcome of any appeal.

Sorry, Yorkshire boy, I've been in hospital and wasn't able to get back either here or to HBOS.
I haven't tried an appeal, the person I spoke to on the 'phone tol;d me that the 0% BT offer was no more, and if I didn't want the alternative card, just not to bother replying.
*Not* very satisfactory, but what to do?

I have updated the first post today, please read it for an update. I'm trying folks. This is just very poor administration from HBos.

  • Thanks Martin, will give them another call tonight to confirm

We could really do with another 9 months interest free without a transfer fee

I was part way through the application process for one of these cards and am not sure what to do. I've got to the part where you have to list your 4 existing credit cards. I have the following cards:

Egg Money Limit £2K (used for shopping)
Egg Card £13K (unused but anniversary starts in May - therefore to be avoided now)
    Alliance & Leicester £3k (ends June 9th)
    Mint £3.4K (ends Nov 1st)
Lloyds Plat £15K (ends Dec 30th)

The snag is by the time the card application process is through, it's pointless putting it on the Egg Card as I will be stung for fees. Logically the only suitable one is Egg Money, but as they will see the limit is £2K, won't that limit how much they will let me have. I don't really want to pay off the others yet as they've got a long way to go, but in any case it's all stoozed money, not real debt, luckily.

    Any suggestions?

I have just received a balance transfer from one of the HBOS charity cards for £8000 into my Egg Money card. The balance of the egg money card was zero and the limit about £2000 but they didn't question it, so you should be safe enough to do the transfer onto your Egg Money.

I have previously been succesfully balance transfering at 0% for the past 6 years and have never had to pay any interest which must drive the cards insane :0) that was up until the last transfer which was with lloyds tsb.

Only to find I had the same prob as all of you i applied for the Great Ormond St card through the links on this site and having previously been stung by lloyds tsb i was clever enough when getting my lloydstsb to be sure there was no balance transfer fee i phoned up and they agreed there was no balance transfer fee so i went ahead and transfered only to find on the statement they charged me a 2% promotional fee crafty So@s :0( so this time was not going to be had the same way..

Anyway I applied for the card which like all of your mensioned in the t&c's that there was a 2% balance transfer fee so i phoned customer service and stated to the guy exactly what the t&c's stated on the website when applying for the card that there was no fee during the introductory offer even tho he went to the site clicked on what i had and could clearly see the place stating no fee applies during the introuctory period he still stated i would be charged a 2% fee and said the site was just out of date :0(
So I was all ready to rip the forms up when i wrote an email to the powers that be on this site who sent me a speedy reply with a link to martins letter from Alan Burnett.
I then phoned back up and they put me through to the applications dept where i explained all of the above to the guy who stated catagoricaly there would be no 2% fee of any kind on these cards as long as the balance transfers were done during the intoductery period after the introductory period was up if you then do a balance transfer there would be a charge but during that period intro period no fee would apply.
I screen caught the terms and conds so i have them saved to file and also
took his name which i have and filled out the forms and sent them and now have my fingers and toes crossed :0)

To anyone unsure phone up that number go through to the applications dept and state exactly what martin has put in alans letter on the site read it to them word for word thats what i did..
Will let you know if i get charged..
  • I thought I would give an update in this thread as I was one of the first to point out and get a HBOS platinum charity card in this thread -

I guess I was lucky because the person I spoke to (on 0800 3896677) seemed to know what they were talking about and confimed it is fee free. I applied for the Macmillan card on 26/02/06 and asked for a £12000 transfer from my Egg card. At the end of the application process I was informed I got a £7000 limit. They did not automatically adjust the BT to fit the limit so I had to call up and ask for the right number to transfer (90% of limit) and then it went through ok. It was pretty fast for a BT at about 6 days. I checked my account today and there is no sign of a fee at all.

Basically I think it is a solid choice if you stick to the internet application and keep an eye on your BT amount and credit limit.
