Sounds like ive touched a nerve.
ive worked my way out of debt over the last few years, with 4k left to pay and being unemployed at the moment im still trying to keep on top of things. i would never have looked for an easy way out.
i took out more credit than i could afford and i paid the price for it.
wether a loan is legal or not, and wether or not its legally enforceable, do you think its morally acceptable to not pay back what youve spent.
would you not feel guilty that those things you have around you havent been paid for

Best thing is to pay them what they are asking for and seeing how it goes.If you are successful, please do post the details on the forum. That way you will help others who may want to do the same but were unsure of what to do.

There is a difference between advice, and people just jumping on the band wagon and adding comments which do not help,

This is a money advice site, not a site for those who believe they are better and have higher morals than others,

If I wanted a useless slagging match for no reason, then I would have found an appropriate site and proceeded there,

In a day and age where I would presume most people are looking for money advice, then i thought this was the place to be,

Not a place for someone to make new comers feel like a total pie.

Does that make people feel better about themselves,

If I did go through with this (which I am now in 2 minds about) I would have certainly posted it up so that it would have pointed others in the right direction, If I lost the money then I would have made Sure that it never happened to anyone else .. As I said i was taken by surprise when I was told about it and noone I know had ever heard about it either,

thank you both for your comments xx

    Teggy,

If you post on an issue like this you need to expect a variety of responses. If you do decide to go ahead, then please update us all as we would love to know how you get on.

Your initial post does just come across like you are looking for a way out of paying - if that is the case then at least you are honest enough to admit it. The reason it annoys people is because there are a lot of people on here who have paid back what they owe through hard work and commitment and don't like seeing people trying to take the easy way out.

Another option for you if you don't want to pay the loan back would be to sell all the items you used the loans/cards for and then make a full and final offer to the creditor. Would you be willing to do that?

Hi was wondering if anyone can help, on a recent website i visited in was advised that there is a chance a loan i had taken out in 2004 could be made void due to the consumer credit act 1974, it says that because the agreement was taken out before 2007 there is a chance there could be breeches in the agreement and that it could possibly be cancelled. I have to send a copy of my agreement which would be checked by this companys legal experts. If they check through and it I have a case i would be charged £285 for a audit and that would be all as when it goes to court the legal expenses will be claimed back from my loan company as they are in breech of contract and my loan cancelled with me not having to pay anymore money (also they would reclaim any PPI that was added without my knowledge) and if there does not look like i will win the case the money refunded and its not costing anything... the loan is for waaaaaaaay more than that so its very tempting, I have spoke to 2 of their with regards to this and have had a few emails and again it all sounds very straight forward but way too good to be true !!! Why would noone else have heard of this .... they also say they can do the same for some credit card agreements from before 2007 .... what does anyone think ???????? Is this possible !!!!!!

I think you should pay your bills rather than trying to dodge your financial commitments.

Will some of you Muppets out there realise that some people cannot pay their bills and that they are looking for advice not sarcastic remarks. They are not trying to dodge financial responsibilities just looking for help.

Although I agree that those in genuine financial trouble should receive the help they need, it is hard to justify attempts to have credit agreements deemed unenforceable as "just looking for help" - it's a deliberate attempt to get out of a debt without paying it, not a request to help with setting up a budget and offering token payments, etc.
