Thanks cheekymole, I might do pasta with onion, mushrooms and tinned toms.
It's just been one of those can't get it together days!0 -
Hiya, I just wrote a big post and then checked back to make sure I'd spelled your names properly and when I came back it had gone!! I searched and searched for it. grrrr! It's too late to start again now, so here's a very brief summary - thanks for your support and welcome to the other newbies. Sorry not posted for a couple of days - can't at work during the day and dog tired when I get in (and then doing boring houehold stuff like everyone else!). But I am tuning in to your posts daytime and rooting for you all - and I'm trying to be good. Will reply properly tomorrow. Bed now. Nite :grouphug:0

Hi everyone! This is my first venture in this part of the boardJenIttels wrote:Is the way we're eating on the SW diet somehow affecting our metabolism so that we have to be extra careful when we reach targets? I ask this now as we have as we seem to have a few, previously very successful ex SW members on the boards.
Okay, so I did overindulge from Sept to Decbut for the whole of Jan and Feb I went on a 2 month very strict detox - no dairy, no wheat, no alcohol and no sugar :A and I didn't lose ANY weight. In fact, I put some on!!!
So this has got me thinking... has the SW diet somehow affected my metabolism? If so, what can I do to put it right?
I feel so fat and ugly at the moment, and can honestly say that I feel EVERY pound of that extra stone. And I feel angry with myself too for being so stupid as to put the weight on again  grrrrrrrr"He who asks questions cannot avoid the answers"0 -
Hi everyone!
I don't use this board much although have posted before, so please forgive me for intruding! I was just wondering how much it costs to join ww or sw? Do you have to pay a registration fee and then a weekly sub? I'm still considering joining - I'd appreciate advice on which one everyone thinks is best.
A little about me - I'm 29, 5'4 tall and I weigh about 11 stone. I joined the gym a month ago and have been going twice a week.I usually swim on one day and then do a gym circuit on the other (10 mins on exercise bike, 10- 15 on treadmill or cross trainer, 5 - 10 on the rowing machine and then 15 reps on the ab cruncher and other weights machines -trying to tone my legs and butt!) I have lost about 4 pounds even though I havent changed my diet. I'm starting to see an improvement in my body shape and my cellulite is starting to go! woohhooo!!! Strangely although I havent lost a significant amount of weight I am feeling alot better about myself and my self confidence is growing.
I am in size 14 clothes at the moment but hope to be a nice slim 12 when I start Uni in September!Sam0 -
Hi Sam,
At SW at the mo' it's half price membership so to join it would cost £9.25 and £4.25 weekly after that.
Students get every 5th week free.
I'm 35 and also 5'4" and weighed in at 11.3 on Jan 10th. I put on 3lb last week due to my holiday and lots of red wine but am 9.12 for now.
You can easily lose your weight by September and good luck whatever you decide.
I have always been told that it's best to lose the weight with gentle exercise and healthy eating and then tone up with workouts etc at the gym to get to the correct shape otherwise you will turn the fat into muscle which eighs heavier.I haven't got one!0 -
Hi everyone & newbies too!
I jumped on the scales last night (a sneeky day early!) and I weighed in higher than I thought for!!! I jumped straight off as I was doing an unnoficial weigh in so didnt want to take any notice but am pretty sure I am heading for a gain this week rather than a loss!!
Not sure what I am doing wrongwell, I do think that the Easter chocolate may have been a contributing factor
Anyway, will update you tonight!
Sam, there is an offer on the SW website that says:LOSE 10LBS in 21 DAYS OR YOUR MONEY BACK!!
http://www.slimming-world.co.uk/special_offer/special_offer_lose10lbs.asp
I am currently doing the freebie way by getting the passwords posted on the internet but wonder if I went for the trial whether it would kick me into gear enough to get the ball rolling properly??
p.s. I am 28 and also 5ft 4" (looks like this is THE height to be!) and ashamed to say am at 12st 1oz at last weigh in

oooo...cheeky! 3lbs on isn't too bad (especially for a star week on top of the holiday) so well done!
My weigh is tonight and i feel really bloated and fatter than usual. Hope it's all just in my head!
I think the reason why it may be harder to come off SW is cause of the portion sizes we're all used to when we're on the diet - maybe our appetites increase whilst we're on it then when we come off we may need the same amount of filling up only with food that contains more calories. I suppose that's why i keep mumbling stuff like 'it's not a diet, it's a way of eating healthily' to myself in the hope that it'll stick!
Incidentally on the exercise thing...i believe that whilst too much muscle based exerise will change the density of your body and will affect your weekly weigh in, that toning, particularly around the abdominals is actually very important through a big weight loss. Theory is it helps you skin shrink slowly so that you minimise the amount of 'floppy bits' you're left with once you've lost lotsa stones. The 'floppy bit' theory also is a good reason why losing 2lbs per week is better than losing 2stone in a month so that your skin has time to adjust.0 -
Thank Jeni. I do agree with the toning but some people join the gym and do power circuits and weights etc which isn't good if you want to lose weight.
Good luck for you weigh in tonight Jeni, it IS all in your head, keep us posted.I haven't got one!0 -
Hi, I am completely new to this site and this chat, but joined SW last week on the lose 10lbs in 21 days offer. I don't actually think I will lose 10lbs as I am aiming to lose 1st 6 altogether and think 10lbs is a bit optimisitic, but I'll keep my fingers crossed!
It is my first weigh in tonight and I am absolutely pertrified!! This is really daft as I did SW a few years ago and got to target, only to find out the same day that I was pregnant with my second baby!! Chuffed!!
I know I have been good this week (almost saintly!) but it is really concerning to think that desite this, I might still not lose anything,a nd worse, might put on. I was gob-smacked when I stood on the scales last week, not a nice sight at all!!
I too have tried to "diet" or eat sensibly on my own to lose the weight, for the last 5 months, and have succeeded in putting on well over half a stone! I'm obviously not very good at it on my own!! This time I am going to stay to class, it's where I think I went wrong last time (despite being pregnant you can still do SW, but I chose to eat doughnuts instead!). Anyway, this board looks like a lot of good stuff and I look forward to slimming down to nothing with you all (or at least having a laugh trying!!).Misguided maybe, but never really bad!! :A0 -
MrsYatesy welcome to MSE and our weight losing board. I'm sure you'll lose something tonight, most people do. Good luck and let us know how you get on.I haven't got one!0
