Have you got any spice blends or pastes? I once made a quick dip for wedges using some mayo, greek yog and some cajun spice, and it was really good. Harissa paste works well too ... I'd imagine that you could even try Thai or Indian curry paste, if you've got any.

    Hi 10past6,

There are lots of dips ideas and recipes on this recent thread that may help:

    Hello folks

I've made some spicy HM pototo wedges, and thought a dip would go with them, however, I'm stuck as I only have limited ingredients: lemon juice, Lime juice, Mayonnaise, radishes, carrots, oranges, apples, not much to choose from, but does anyone have any suggestions please?

IMHO. dips are best made from yogurt, so I'd add some of the citrus juice to the mayo to sharpen it up a bit. I'd then experiment with adding finely grated veg, and see what combination you like.

We have an older thread on dips, so I'll merge this to that to keep ideas together.

    Hi folks

Thanks for the advice, I for got to mention, I do have some mustard powder, one thing I don't have is yogurt, I suffer with clinical depression today I'm having one of my off days, so not able to get out to buy any, pity as it seems like the yogurt is the main ingredient for dips.

    Never mind, thanks anyway folks.

Hi - my 2 year old is quite taken with "dips" and i was after some recipes to make some for him ?

He likes hummus and also cheese type dips.

    Thanks

  • I'd like to say we have a recipe for hummous but it was just a case of tipping things into the food processor. It usually involved a can of chickpeas, drain but save the water for thinning down. Put in 2 tablespoons of olive oil and two peeled cloves of garlic. Juice of 1 lemon and a large tablespoon of tahini. Start off with half a teaspoon of salt. Whizz and taste. Add water/more salt etc as necessary. Makes about a bucketful but its lovely.

I make guacamole for my son as there are always avocados yellow stickered in my local supermarket, I mush up a ripe one and add either sour cream or natural yoghurt a bit of lemon or lime juice and some chopped tomatos. Very nice smeared inside pitta bread and sliced as finger food or with vegetable sticks as a dip.

You could try a cheesy garlic dip, take some soft cheese (like Philli), loosen with some soured cream, add a crushed garlic clove and some snipped chives, yum. Or how about a garlic mayonnaise, just add a crushed clove of garlic. Or Blue cheese dip, crumble some blue cheese into soured cream and mayonnaise.:D This is making me hungry now.;)
