Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 25th June. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome, so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have screens, or slow internet connections, so please DON'T post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning. Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

Morning OS chums! hi.gif

Looks like it will be another lovely sunny day today - sixth in a row, though the wind can be chilly!

Sunnygirl - hope it all went well with your father at the hospital.
hgballoons.gif(belated) to meanmarie
Pen Pin - Hope the new medication is doing the trick
Aussie - well done on your travel bargain!
Donny - hope you manage to see some of the tennis! The Sharapova match was fab.
FairyE - enjoy your camping weekend.
Celyn - glad you had a great weekend - it sounds lovely!
Vicky - Congrats on the job and four weeks will fly by, don't worry!

I am up early with toothache - I stupidly fell into bed really tired last night and forgot to clean my teeth so my newly filled tooth is complaining really loudly today!

I mentioned a strange insect I found the other day? Looked like a stick insect? Well it WAS... apparently they have naturalised in parts of the UK. Fascinating link if you want to know more about it HERE
strangeinsect.th.jpgHere is the wee beastie himself! (If you click on the pic it gets bigger! :p)

Picked more garlic scapes and cooked them last night. Made garlic butter with them as well as adding to a potato salad for dinner. I found they were much more tender if you scraped or peeled the very thin membrane off first. Thought you might like to see what they looked like for those of you who haven't seen them before..
deliciousgarlicscapes.th.jpg

OH bought some cheap pukka pies in Tescos so that is tea sorted out... better go and put the BM on shortly or lunch will be difficult!

Warm gentle hugs.giffor anyone who wants or needs one today.

Morning Diva and all to follow,

Nice day here again, this has to be some kind of record six days in a row .

Off to work today, its very busy which is good, makes the time fly past. The First of the Americans visitors have flown on to Venice this morning, and we get another lot arriving tonight :T, so probably lots more eating out, and a few drinkies :o

Something with oven chips tonight, will go and rummage in the freezer in a while. Need to do a wash tonight, and have a tidy through. Kitchen floor needs a good seeing to :D

Have good days all and hugs where needed xx

Morning MSD, Redruby & everyone else.

Hope the toothache wears off Diva

Well after a couple of really horrible days hope to make some headway today. Have some office work but will be doing only the essential as really want to get the house under control again. 2 days of letting things slip and it looks terrible.

So this morning will be thoroughly cleaning the kitchen, tidying up and hoovering the whole house. Having the lamb kebabs today as ended up getting a takeaway last night . Need to take pictures of one of our vans today to put up for sale - not holding out much hope but you dont know till you try. Will be ironing later so will shut the blinds in that room to keep it cooler as it looks like it will be another stunning day :j

    Have a great day.

Oh and must remember that DS needs to go to school today dressed as an ancient greek - big tshirt with string belt over shorts - he refuses to wear his sandals though so will be an ancient greek in trainers :rotfl:

    Morning everyone.
Well very cloudy here. What a difference to yesterday. Come back sunshine I neeeeeeeeeed you ;)
Not much going on here today. DS back at pre school so am heading off to Mr S with DD in tow this morning. Need some bits and pieces (not much meat in freezer except for chicken) and their baby stuff has a third off so will be clearing the shelves of their eco range of nappies :D
Not sure what's for tea. Probably a makeshift as I have badminton tonight.
Was nibbling on my homegrown baby carrots whilst watering the garden last night. Very tasty and DS couldn't get enough of them! They've done much better in a big plastic pot this year rather than the terracotta one last year.
My mum and dad are back off hols and it's been nearly 2 weeks since they saw the kids so are having withdrawal symptoms. Will probably head round there this afternoon so they can see them.
Made a lovely tea last night (meat free). Onion and courgette and grated carrot and LOADS of garlic over pasta with home grown little gem lettuce. It was very tasty and a good way to our 5 a day :D
Do tinned toms count towards that???

Have a good day all OS or not.

    Morning everyone :hello:

Thanks for all the [STRIKE]sniggering [/STRIKE]kind thoughts about yesterday. :D:p Hopefully today will be more straightforward.
It's very hot here again, even in the shade so I will stay inside this morning and sort out the wardrobe that became a floordrobe in my hunt for something to wear yeaterday. :o
School sports day this afternoon and I'll help with the strawberry teas. How our little Scottish Highland children are going to cope with running in the heat I don't know.

Think we'll bbq for tea tonight so must lift some meat out of the freezer. One load of washing on the line so far and 2 more to go.

I'm so pleased about your Dad Sunnygirl. :j

    Take care everyone.

    Morning Guys!

Thanks for all the nice messages.

Still not feeling good, but trying to keep busy reading or resting:rolleyes:....maybe I am really 85:confused::D The new meds are making me feel very sick and the anti sick tablets are making me drowsy.

OH is taking me out for a drive this morning after the nurse has been and he's helped his dad out with something. I like Rochester near the river, so hoping we can go there with a sarnie and flask.

Cleaner is here atm. I asked her to come after 7.30 as she came at 7.15 last week and it was wayyyy to early! She was on the drive at 7.25 and entering the house at 7.30 exactly.

The Lakeland sale has started BTW online!

Received another great delivery from Ocado yesterday. Total was £69, but that inlcuded a bottle of 15yr Whisky (£18.01, instead of £28.99), lots of frozen and fresh stuff and some cupboard fillers too. Very pleased as I saved £36 in total on offers and a 15% voucher code. They do great frozen veg. We particularly like the broad beans (750g £1.14), Sweet corn on cob (1kg £1.04), Button Sprouts (1kg 95p), Essential peas (907g 95p) and they cook very well in the steamer. Means that we just buy fresh carrots, cabbage and cauli/broc if on special. Frozen peppers from Iceland are £1 and great to put in curries, cassaroles or soups.

I am doing one shop at Ocado every 3 weeks, then top ups at Aldi atm. Their milk is 49p for 2 pints....havent seen it cheaper anywhere else, so we buy about 10 at a time and freeze them. I have cancelled milkman (sorry Taplady) as I was getting my milk after 3pm on the 2 days I had delivered and was getting stupid! The cost had gone to 58p a pint too. I still have an account and can order online the night before till 9pm, which is good for emergencies etc.

My laptop came yesterday, so OH is putting Quicken on it for me, then will move all files needed over. I am giving my old one to DD's friend who is lovely and will appreciate it. Hopefully it should last a little while, but is a little tempramental, she will need to keep backing it all up. Am pleased we got such a great deal. With the other stuff that sold on Ebay, I should just about have enough to clear the cc when it comes in:j:j:j

    Anyway, I am rambling.

Twink-We have a date for later?

    Have a great day everyone.

    Morning all :D

Diva That is one long insect

Pen Pin Enjoy your trip out ((hugs))

Halight You are an inspiration to me. I hope that your consultants appointment comes through soon after your scan ((hugs))

Noahsmum How did you get on at the hospital? I was thinking about you.

Nice & sunny here with a good breeze so the beds have been stripped and are out on the line blowing. I want to have a quick clean round this morning & do the windows then off to see Dad with my Mum later on. He should actually be allowed home today or tomorrow so keeping everything crossed.

Dinner this evening is chicken sweet & sour with rice followed by fruit salad. I went into Aldi yesterday and got some peaches, plums, cherries, kiwis, a melon & a pineapple. I don't shop there regularly but try to get in for the Super Six when I'm passing as its such good value :money: Lunch will either be a sandwich or some leftover spag bol from last night.

Have good days all & hugs to anyone who needs them.
