KUL->CMB (Sri Lanka) return for £40 but have decided to spend 2 nights in KUL primarily in case the STN->KUL is delayed.

Good thinking - It's a long flight. KL has some amazing hotels for ridiculously cheap prices and as I said above, it's a fun place to spend a couple of days.

I been three times to KL but there's still a lot I've haven't done. Managed to get Marriott New World Tower hotel on PriceLine the previous two trips for about £25 a night - with stunning views of the Petronas towers from my room.

One more KL tip, (applies everywhere) , watch out for the un-licenced taxis and their touts outside bus stations, and airport in particular.
No meter - no ride. There are plenty of others.
A good guide is to try and wave down a taxi on the move. If the driver (or his tout) has time to hang around touting for business he expects to make a LOT more out of the ride than the meter rate. I've seen them sat on their cars quoting 6-8 times the meter rate outside the main bus station. Just walk up the road a bit.

This promotion ends on the 28th. If I don't make as not sure with dates, according to your experience is there any possibilty of a similar offer again?

They keep coming up but if you register (and watch your e-mail VERY regularly) you get to find out early. Saying that the best deals are normally in May/June but then these are not normal times so who knows.

Yes, you have to pass through immigration, collect your bags, go through customs, walk around to check-in and check-in for your next flight.
Thanks a lot guys...sorry to be a pain with my questions!
As Burtie mentioned the immigration, do I have to get a visa for Malesia as well, in addition to the Austrlian one?

Last question, I swear! I'm quite easygoing but being so cheap I fear there is some hidden difficulty!
So is this basically the same way as flying with Singapore, Cathay, or whatever etc, but with no frills, less comfort and the only difference is that I have to allocate more hours between the 2 flights?
    Thanks

For full British passport holder no visa required, can't remember how long you can stay but plenty long enough for most people
look at https://www.fco.gov.uk and see travel advice country by country.

All I can say about Air Asia X (longhaul) is I was well impressed. If there was one
thing I would change it was that there was very very quiet background
music playing through the flight, I didn't really notice it but OH did. Add 20p earplugs to cost of holiday. The (female) flight attendants were also very pleasing on the eye.
    (Can I say that here?)

You are rigth again! it is fine unitil 3 months!

Just a note: "There are confirmed cases of Swine Flu (H1N1) in Malaysia. Passengers entering Malaysia from countries with confirmed cases of H1N1 will be thermally or manually screened for any increase in body temperature. Any passengers displaying flu-like symptoms, and passengers travelling on flights with confirmed cases, may be placed in quarantine. "
Hope not to be sick until december, or at least to receive the care of Malaysian hostesses!

You should have no problems obtaining the "clearance/visa on arrival" providing you're of "good character". When you get to Australia and they find out you transited Malaysia expect a few questions though.
The only benefit of buying a "direct" ticket is that your baggage is checked all the way through, the connecting flight times are usually less and they will PROBABLY do more if your flight is delayed/cancelled. The benefit of Air Asia is you can "tag" on a vacation around Asia using their cheap network.
