Ahh don't leave. MSE is great, 95% of the people are lovely. No matter where you go or what you do in life you're always going to come up against people that are unpleasant or have different view points to you. The key is to just rise above it.

Sally you could get so much valuable advice and support from this website, just forget this thread and move on to the next one. I've had altercations with loads of people in the last few years but I don't know these people so I just get on with it. :)

    95% are lovely.
I think you will find that 90% give advice, often incorrectly, just to say 'there there' to somone.

Woody i'm concerned that you don't actually know what DLA is for. Nobody ever said it would make somebody feel less anxious or "better" - do you think DLA gives a blind person their sight back?

It helps with the practical side of things and people with mental health problems need practical help just as much as somebody with missing limbs or something like that. In fact the more I think about it, i'm starting to think you're one of those idiots who think if you can't see a disability then it isn't there.

The whole point of these threads is to give practical and useful advice, I know sometimes they go off on a tangent but you didn't give any advice, just harsh, unwanted comments, so why are you here?

I assure you I am not threatening anyone. I am a nice genuine person who had a genuine query and didnt expect to get this kind of response. Think I will leave this site. It just upsets me

I dont want you to leave on my account, I was just pointing out that you made an error.

A lot of people dont understand what DLA is for and some cant see why anyone other than wheelchair users gets it since the universal disability sign is a wheelchair.

You can claim DLA, get your CPN to help you with the forms, theres no guarentee of an award and an award is given for your care and mobility needs only and not your diagnosis. DLA 101

I was indeed quoting the things the DLA form asked!

Take no notice of the moaners sally, many just like to open their mouth and spout nonsense!

With my daughter its not a case of just giving her a shout to get out of bed, but I dont need to describe all of her personal medical conditions. The DLA pays for the care she needs, i.e she loses EMA if she doesnt go to college, but it also goes to me to pay me for when I'm caring for her. When I have to take time off work to physically drag her out of bed, and drag her to the hospital to get her self-inflicted cuts stitched up or treated for dehydration, I dont get paid.

Tell you what, why dont I become her full time carer? ESA, CA, HB, CTC, CTB will do me fine, then I'll get to sit on my backside and watch Jeremy Kyle all day!

I have to say I found welshmoneylovers post amusing, but tbh, it was said from a point of ignorance and was a direct response to your post.

When you look at it, you do seem to be describing a lazy teenager.

Unfortunately, I think the term 'mental illness' is now overused and it has made people less sympathetic. We seem to have swung full circle in terms of public perception and that's a shame.
  • I would say that DLA is not an easy benefit to get and that you really need a professional person to fill it in - CAB or Welfare Rights Worker or someone who often fills them in. They are big forms and they can look deceptively easy to fill out but they are looking for a lot of information to meet the criteria set for each level of dla care and mobility.

I would also say that you might not like the benefit system the way it is but it is the system we have at the moment and you have to advise people the best course of action for them within the system.

Mental health claims rely a lot of the medical support you are getting - it is not enough to say that you are depressed, you need to be medicated and have the full support of your medical team as they will be consulted on your claims made in the DLA form.

I would tend to agree with this.

I don't think medication is a must, but I so think it will helps enormously to have medical backing.

This is the same for physical disabilities too of course, but a medical has more chance of backing up a claim for a physical disability, whereas mental illness diagnosis tends to take longer.

I agree that medication is not a must. When I first got my award I had chosen not to take medication (I'm a non compliant type ;) ). The DM will take account that people may have reasons for not wishing to take meds, whether those reasons appear to be justified or not.
    Gone ... or have I?
