Ikea wont do anything bespoke or made to measure so forget them if you want something to go floor to ceiling. They're a great company, but if you want sliding wardrobes, dont get them fitted on a big flatpack chipboard box, spend your moey on some floor to ceiling doors and use you floor walls and ceiling as 'the box' (they alreaady exist so you dont have to pay for them!!!!! We've bought 5 sets for 3 different houses over the years, we've used 2 of the companies mentioned above, and were happy with them (except the price), but weve now discovered a company called Sliding Wardrobe World (at the same name on the internet) who will take your measurements online, and then make to measure for you, and deliver. All you have to do is screw your tracks in, and position your doors........... they use good qulaity stuff and the prices are good too

Hi Daryld..have you had a look at how much it might cost for sliderobes? my friend was able to get 3 years interest free credit on hers, every time I go over to her house I am totally jealous! lol. I might get them out to give me a quote - when the other half is out of the way :)

Reviews tell me they will cost thousands. Just could not afford that, And I don't particularly fancy credit.

I might just get hubby to try building himself and perhaps buy the slide doors somewhere else ourselves. Where I don't know.

I've posted about them before but I'm very happy with my spaceslide 'drobes. Followed instructions on their site to measure the opening (then measured it several more times so I was sure it was right), and fitted them myself which took a few hours but really not too difficult.

Looked at sliderobes, deane, and a couple of others and all were at least £1500 dearer.

Now the sister-in-law is jealous cos I have a 'dream wardrobe' and my brother's not happy cos he might have to spend money on something similar :D

Also recommend Elfa shelving for the inside - got mine all kitted out nicely with shelves and rails galore!

You could try wardrobe-design-online. I have several sets fitted and am very happy

I've used gliderobes on a supply only basis. Excellent service and easy to fit.
  • I fitted a wall to wall Ikea PAX wardrobe system with Spaceslide made to measure sliding doors in cool white toughened 8mm glass, with a steel , silver finish frame, covering an aperture of 4420mm x 2335mm, on a DIY basis.
They look and perform brilliantly, the whole thing cost me £1200.
I bought the doors through Screwfix direct in thier 40% off Spaceslide Easter sale for £770 and the robes inclusive of all internal fit out for£430.
I'd recommend this combination to anyone.
  • Hi
Have been researching the above for quite a while now, and just bought from Sliding Wardrobe World as Appaya suggested (www. slidingwardrobeworld.com). Prices are great, and very happy with product. Bought the ikea storage that goes behind, but wish I had bought from them also (had not noticed on the site that they do it):j:j
  • Still waiting patiently, 3 emails, a dozen calls no reply at all, wouldn't recommend based on this experience at all

You have to speak as you find but I had my emails answered in about an hour (twice) and I got the delivery email four days before delivery with a date & time.
In honesty, these sliding doors are so easy to fit I think anyone could do it? Only need a drill and spirit level unless the opening is unusual.
And, lastly I went to Spaceslide (via the Screwfix offer) and bought 3 mirror doors, tracking and liners all delivered for £418 +Vat. That is for bespoke doors to suit an opening of 3120mm X 2435mm. I couldn't get standard B & Q doors without needing an extra one to deal with the width.
Oddly I also see that they sell through Wilkinson yet the prices there are different (ie much higher and without the 40% sale through Screwfix) for the same thing?

I have often looked at this site and got valuable info - but never posted before. I looked today to see if others had experienced problems with Spaceslide and as some were contemplating a purchase, I decided I would share my Spaceslide experience.

Bought and installed 4 years ago. 2 sets of mirrored 2 doors with end panel and 5 with glass and oriental bars for a complete wall. All doors are floor to ceiling.

We were extending our house using the wonderful independent builder who originally built it - and used his team, who are all experienced and reputable tradesmen, to install the Spaceslide.

Everything looked wonderful ....... for a while. The 2 sets of mirrored wardrobes that receive daily use were the first to play up. They started to come out of their runners and have to be treated very gently or lifted back in - and they are HEAVY. I attempted to contact Spaceslide to ask how this could be remedied but received no reply or response to my emails.

The wall to wall/ceiling to floor storage is only used at most, once a fortnight. However, I noticed after a year or so that one door bowed a little and didnt slide neatly behind, as it should.
Today another door jammed and almost came out of the slider and now refuses to slide back into its original position.

I am going to try again to contact Spaceslide to see if they can suggest a remedy.

Perhaps I have been unlucky, but thought it only fair to pass on my experience to anyone contemplating buying. My own view is that the floor to ceiling doors are too heavy and bow over time.
