The Tourist Visa (subclass 676) allows you to stay in Australia for:
- a stay of up to 12 months, or a shorter period, depending on the purpose of the visit and your personal circumstances; and
- as a single or multiple entries to Australia
So even if a on a tourist visa, I'd not be able to gather, nor would HMRC probably, whether she was intending to stay over 6m
All irrelevant, but interesting still0 -
Got no idea why i'm looking at this...except tv is dull lol
This is from aus gov site on residence...
Individuals - Temporary residents
Generally, you will be a ‘temporary resident’ if- you are an individual and
- you hold an Australian temporary visa and
- you and your spouse are not ‘residents’ within the meaning of the Social Security Act 1991

What do you have in writing from the IR? Don't get into a debate, make the letter shorter it's quite adversarial at present. Also don't address the letter to the brother, write to the landlord c/o the UK address you have been supplied with. Send it recorded delivery, no phone calls or email.
I've read the entire thread now, and I am standing by my initial comments. OP: I survived a rather 'dysfunctional' marriage, and the letting agent for my first property afterwards turned out to have a screw loose (I wasn't the first tenant who paid on time and looked after the place who he hounded out).
With the benefit of hindsight I could have handled the situation better, and possibly avoided the hassle of a withheld deposit at the end of the tenancy. I got ALL my money back eventually, tho it caused me a good deal of worry. You may be 100% right but, as a tenant, you don't hold all the cards.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Hi why would you want to move into such a property in the first place when it hasnt and dosnt meet any legal requirements at all as you seem to be very knowledgable about the implecations of the rental world, this landlady would have fell at the first fence for me....hope you get sorted though i am sick and tired of amateur landlords like this making a fast buck out of tenants which keeps the rental prices low(sorry)because there are so many doing this, their are professional landlords like myself which comply with every piece of legislation there is, plus to boot my accountancy fees it costs me to put my tax affairs in place......rant over0

""No and neither do the council acttually have any clout according to them or the CAB or shelter.""
Councils have plenty of legal clout - it depends on what questions you asked - councils private sector housing and environmental health departments will, and do, take landlords to court; they will perform repairs which landlords refuse to do (and then bill then); and they will ensure that landlords comply with their legal duties in many aspects of the HHSRS regulations and so on.
why on earth are you now researching australian immigration rules ?????? - get a grip - as i said a long time ago, you dont seem able to focus on what is important - i am pleased that i am not the only poster to realise that you are adversarial .... i suspect that the anger you feel about your DV situation is now being channeled in this partially inappropriate manner. i have housed several DV women and they do seem to get bees in their bonnets about stuff that keeps them fired up......
maybe a camomile tea and some honey ? -
and that really is not meant to sound as patronising as it may have come across...
btw - sorry you find the "deluded" word offensive - it was you who used that word in the title of the thread - maybe "obsessional" might be a better one ?

check out the wording of the second blue link...the australians do not 'pretty things'
Can't find info.
But thanks for letting us know, should I ever need the info. Athough i'm hoping LL's letter will just stop my liabilityReally don't want to meddle

""Really don't want to meddle "" .... ??
broclo - your explanation of your alleged "throwaway line" - which was actually a very carefully thought out strategy as to how you could move out and not pay your rent - says far more about your values and intentions than you realise.
your assertion that we already know all the "facts" really shows us how blinkered you are - there are always 2 sets of "facts" in any dispute and we only have yours
you are clearly a very intelligent woman - as you had already researched for yourself the answer to your tax problem - you knew what to do before you came here - do what you think you should do now with regard to the tax and then get on with your life and stop meddling in others affairs - which are none of your business.0 -
Sigh...either way, even if she is correct, I can not help feel she is being over dramatic and heavy handedAh it may sort this out, but I do not think in million years that the LL is going to back down, she now has a bee in her bonnet and even if sorted I fear she will be aiming to remove me asap.
So if she does go for it...I'll also go for everything too as I have just been trying to protect myself and feel she really need not act this way!How presumptious! In fact you a wrong. I am 'one of the penniless'!
The money did not just pop out of a hat, I had no time to save this money as I was new to benefits after excaping DV. I then had to move again and in a hurry for safety reasons(amoungst others) and although I may have paid the money to the LL...it did not come out of my pocket or any benefit agencies either.
For someone who is allegedly fleeing and escaping DV you really are stacking up a whole load of other problems for yourself by the very fact of the amount of personal information you continually post on this website and considering the amount of information you seem to have on the personal and financial affairs of your LL have you not considered that she will have an equal amount of information about you? You say some 50 members of MSE have your address perhaps you should consider why there is, I believe, a rule suggesting that for safety's sake users should not pass on personal information such as this.
I certainly wouldn't call the LL over dramatic and you may find she will become even more heavy handed should she or her brother read this thread. There can't be too many LL's that answer the detailed description you have given of her and her affairs.
As clutton says perhaps its time you minded your own business and alleged safety rather than your LLs.0 -
i understand from other sources that the flight from DV was quite a while back0
