Well so far I have managed to find 14 of OH's work shirts still in packets which I have put in a bin bag which are now useless as they changed the uniform while he was off, but I cant just bin them or charity shop them as they have great big logos on them. Might get him to take them back to work for recycling. At least the 6 pairs of new trousers he can wear down the garden.

Now the hoarder in me would say put them with the rest of the attic stuff and ebay in a few years ;) but the flylady (ha! me?!) says could they not be used by the local school/nursery as painting overalls?

ETA Have finished all the ironing for now :D (ignoring the load in the TD, can do that tomorrow) Fence posts, lil tikes car and gate all collected by different freecyclers :D They will think I am a drug dealer with all the different cars arriving :rotfl:

Well Kaz to the rescue as you cant be as bad as me and to prove the point I will provide the evidence.

Firstly the art is to declutter then the cleaning gets easier, I have managed to declutter downstairs but the upstairs I dont think I'll ever get done and as for the attic, well I wont even go there.
kazm thank you soooo much for sharing your photos -its an inspiration to us all -as the others have said we all imagine our own homes are the worst - and yours is no different from mine just bigger - or some of the others as they have said too - I love your attic bedroom and it wouldnt take much to sort it out and as triker so rightly says - if your bedroom is calm/clutter free/ tidy you WILL sleep better.
I am probably being patronising here so please forgive me as I DONT mean to be but I cant think how else to suggest this - you may or may not have tried it.
In your bedroom - whether you decide to do it when the list is on or another day is up to you - close the door and stand on the outside of the bedroom (works for any room) - put your hand of the door handle - close your eyes - open the door wide and open your eyes - what is the first thing that you see that bugs you -NOT the whole room - the first thing that you see that annoys you - maybe its the unmade bed - the shoes on the floor - the floordrobe - whatever it is go and sort it - take 15-30 mins and do the annoying thing - if you still have time to do more repeat the process - stand at the doorway close your eyes and then open them and dive on your next bit. If thats all you do its great its a start - I get the feeling you are totally overwhelmed by the state of the whole room and the secret is to focus on one teeny weeny part and then another and another - just like AnW's Mum's dot2dot!
As for the stuff in the attic - well only you and yours know if you need it - perhaps trying to go through one small box a day/week would help until you get it organised - break it down into small teeny manageable chunks and be very pleased with yourself when you do one - getting rid of the clutter is def the way to go to make your life easier. I (personally IMHO) think you need to get your living spaces sorted first and the attic will come in time - DD needs to do her Room of Gloom or be prepared for you to gut it as and when required and you will be far more ruthless than she will!!!

I hope I havent offended you - i wish I was nearer I may not be fit but I would love to be able to come and help you get organised.
    love and hugs
    toots xx

arrgh! just starting my HHI at 8:45 then DH needed me. dealt with him, then DD comes down cos she can't sleep and has a headache.

I get sooo frustrated and I know I'm being unreasonable, but it seems tragic that half an hour's ironing in peace listening to a podcast is all I ask, and I can't even have that!

oh well, got it done now that's the main thing - just wanted to vent

toots - that's a really good tip about dealing with whatever clutter leaps out when you open the door. (with some cupboards it actually leaps out come to think about it...)

what's tomorrow's task? have I missed it? I want to know before I turn off the PC, otherwise I'll be tempted to come on MSE first thing tomorrow and then nothing will get done!:D

Thanks but its a S**t hole but it might be a fab space one day, cant actually remember what year we started it probably about 2002.

I also have found a bag of new Claires Accessories stuff that I will donate to DD's school fete and I have a whole trolley bag of recycling cardboard/paper.

As yet nothing has left the house though

As for the shoes, that was 14 pairs just spread across the floor, last time DD counted the cupboard there were 38 pairs of shoes and 14 pairs of boots - but I am going to fling some - promise
Kazm I can beat you there - I started doing my flat in 1999 and I am only get it done now - I have been living with out floorcoverings, whalf stripped wall etc etc What about we challenge you to sort through your shoes this week? and they must leave the house not just get moved about - thats what i used to do! try to deal with stuff as you find it and I promise slowly but surely it will make a difference - can you cut the logos off and give them to the charity shop? great idea fro Anw's Mum to give to the nursery. And get Dh to take the cardboard to recycling before he goes back to work - in fact can you get some black bags of rubbish done to go before then too?

Kazmeister, :T:T:T:T:T:T Thank you x 1000 for 'sharing', our bedroom is very similar to yours but with about a quarter of the space.:o:o:o:o
I feel inspired to go up in a mo and try and sort some of it out.
I'm convinced that it causes us to have bad, restless sleep due to the clutter.:(But thanks for not making me feel alone in clutter land.:happylove xx
Triker - that is so true. good for you going to tackle your bedroom. Thanks for the Pm - will reply asap.

    Well..I win..

The girls room you cannot actually SEE the floor.. and until I spent a few hours binning and flinging in there the last few WEEKS!! it was about 2-3 feet deep all over... everywhere.. not just one corner.. wall to wall from the door!!

The boys room has been gutted today.. I've had 5 binbags of rubbish and broken toys.. 3 loads of washing.. moved the beds round.. shifting the pc in a minute.. moved the chest of drawers and WILL find a whole carpet in there...

I've pulled the junior bed out to fling as well.

From the garden I have flung 1 bike.. I have about 3 more to go amongst other broken toys etc I just decided one thing at a time to go.
pigpen would it be possible to ask your lovely flylady friend for help for once or your mother - fill the car with all your bags and some of the garden stuff and go to the skip/ dump / whatever you call it in H!!!
It makes such a difference when you see the stuff being dumped!

thisis it that was nice of your DH to let you sleep - you must have been needing it xx

We've talked about a flylady swat team before. I really wonder if we could organise one by regions - a team of local flyladies goes in and helps sort out!

I've done some OU study this evening (final assignment is due in by 10th July so I need to start working on it). I need to go out with the camera again soon. Not tomorrow though because I'm waiting for DS's phone to arrive ~sigh~ At least they've confirmed this evening that it is due for delivery tomorrow.

Should they ask the vendor, do you think, to lower the price to take into account the works that need doing? It's about 20 years this year that I last bought!
soappie - I think its a great idea because 'strangers' well flylady friends have no emotial attachment to things - Valli told me that once and she's is right - I remember she said she could declutter for her friend or sister far easier than she could for herself and I think confronted by someone saying to you 'do you really need to keep this' you would answer 'no' and it would be gone - left to ourselves we find reasons to keep things.

Dont you leave that assignment too late I dont want to be chasing you.!!:rotfl:
And yes - offer the seller the asking price less what it going to cost for the damp - or give him the chance to have it done - in the current market it has to be worth asking. - thats the way my brother bought his house 3/4 years ago - the survey outlined the problems - Db costed it and decuted it before he offered and and the estate agent explained to the seller and it went ahead.

OMG I have been rambling again - sorry peeps:rolleyes:

    Evening everyone,

Today I have done WMx3 (1 enforced by dog accident), finally finished the garden clearence into the recycling bin took 6 months but it is done now!!!!! :j:j:j

Ready for the digging over and making into a veg patch for next year. Will be looking for some planks to edge it with and make a bit bigger.

Also was so mad  with the dog I did the kitchen list in 45mins so at least that's done.

Thanks for showing the photos Kazm, means a lot to see how other people are and I didn't feel so bad at leaving to top cupboards in the kitchen for another time, no point in beating yourself up about what you haven't done, every step is a step all the same! :T

Bless you toots - I am in no way offended and I like the idea but (and you just knew there had to be one) it would be nice for it to be beautiful but I can live with it as it is. I open the door and think Beeeeed and Sleeeeeeep and I dont see the rest, I guess thats why I now realise theres no hope for DD either and I let her get on with it too. Her room and the spare room I HAVE TO DO though as we have a French stdent to stay on 4th July  OMG that means I need to tackle the jungle as well (it was pretty once)

However ;) things have left the house
