I'd rather have my Xbox repaired by MS than the retailer. To be honest I'd say the law is on the consumers side, After 6 months it is perfectly fair to ask the consumer to prove it wasnt like that when purchased.0

why should 6 months be the time limit for the retailer to enjoy the burdern of proof? How is that an equitable solution when dealing with hardware that should last a damn site longer? Someone could break their machine within that time period, what then? I don't think that's a valid argument for such an intrinsically unfair policy. I would say 2 years; I also doubt very much that the british public are that corrupt that this law is necessary to stop retailers from drawning under an avalanche of people breaking their consoles (and for why?)substandard wrote: »But what happens when the consumer has broken his Xbox? If that was the law, then retailers would, rightly, be complaining that their business is being unfairly hit - what's more, their tax contributions would fall and their prices would rise, hitting everyone else.
Last you'll hear about this from me. Good luck with your fictional Xboxes!0 -
How is it perfectly fair? Retailers know full well that the average consumer can't possibly prove a hardware fault is not their fault. It's always impossible to effectively prove the negative, and six months is an absurdly short period of time for a computer.I'd rather have my Xbox repaired by MS than the retailer. I cant see it being changed from 6 months any time soon.0

If it was 2 years instead of 6 months then people would take the P*ss. Break stuff themselfs then come back for a refund/repair. There are people like that in the UK. May not be the majority but they do exist. If your Xbox 360 breaks, Then send it to MS at no cost to yourself, Its easy enough to do, Then they send it back.0

Microsoft say they won't repair it for free, it's going to cost £70+ to get it repaired through them.
I had read that there was a standard 2 year guarantee if you are part of the EU, but microsoft say no, it's only 1 year.
I have sent you a PM.

that's just rubbish. why on earth would you assume someone would break a perfectly functioning machine just to get it replaced by the same thing. That doesn't happen in 6 months, it won't happen in 2 years. If it was 2 years instead of 6 months then people would take the P*ss. Break stuff themselfs then come back for a refund/repair. using the 360 as an example, many did it to try and get an HDMI equipped one when they started getting sent out by M$0 -
given those problems are exactly the subject of this thread, posting the answer here would also have been helpful.MrsBartolozzi wrote: »I have sent you a PM.
