ScS sofas ignoring trading standards

recommending a specific trader is hardly impartial to other traders is it?
they should not have done that....
So you would rather TSS just threw consumers to the wolves and let them try to find someone themselves?
You'll find that the independent experts are normally tasked with providing reports for TSS in criminal cases also, which is why they have been recommended. The magistrates are aware of these people and will accept their opinions.
Or would you rather the consumer was forced to use the SCS assessor (as has been tried in the past)?0 -
I really appreciated TS giving me name of an independant expert as I wouldn't know where to start.0

the whole purpose of TSS is to ensure a FAIR trading environment.
FAIR being the operative word.
FAIR to consumers. FAIR to traders.
they should not show bias to particular traders, defeating their own purpose in the process!0 -
My boyfriend bought a leather manual recliner sofa from SCS 2 years ago. He took out the extended warranty (which isn't worth the paper it's written on as far as I'm concerned because at the time it didn't cover the mechanics of the recliner!). Anyway, we have now found that the sofa was not manufacted correctly - both of the recliners do not work as they should. An SCS upholsterer came out and done an inspection, took photo's and agreed that there was a manufacturing fault. I made a comment on the report he gave me (I didn't get a copy - wish I had now!). SCS have now informed me that as the sofa can be repaired they have the right to repair it. I think the sofa is of poor quality and I don't want a bodged sofa fixed together with lots of different bits and pieces - i refused the repair. Am I legally obliged to have this repaired? They say the repair is guaranteed for 12 months but what if it goes wrong again - do I go through all this hassle again?? Can I not just have a refund. I told them I would be seeking independant advice before I committed to a repair.
I hope someone out there can help me!!
Thanks0 -
Hi, I would contact your local trading standards and get proper advice.
I've now got the manufacturers quality & design manager coming to inspect my sofa this week & local TS will be present. I have to say have been very impressed with trading standards. Just hope will finally get this resolved & be reimbursed.
Good luck, hope you fair better than I've done so far with ScS. Just stick with it & don't back down.0 -

Hi really wished I'd used this site before I purchased from ScS cos if I had I would have walked right past their store & gone elsewhere!!!0 -
i purchased my sofa from scs sofas in September last year .in January
the sofa was showing signs of sinking badly on one cushion i called
scs who advised that a webbing needed to be added to the sofa in order
to stop the foam slipping down the sides .i advised scs this must be a
design fault and requested a replacement and was denied .two weeks
latter we notices a knocking sound scs called out advised there was a
bolt loose and re tightened the bolt .upon contacting scs i again
requested a refund or replacement they advised as the bolt was re
tighten there was no fault my argument being when my guarantee ran out
im not in the position nor am i skilled to take the sofa apart the re
tighten bolts
three months ago we noticed that the sofa has sunken more the engineer
pop ed out advised us that this is the way the sofas are made they
will sink they wont last more than 3 yrs i replied well my second had
sofa i bought from the paper lasted for more than 6yrs his advise was
they don't make them like they used too .
we left things lie believing that the problems were a figment of our
imagination
after watching a bbc show about consumer rights i got irate not
satisfied with our dealings with scs i then produced them with a 14
days to rectify the fault letter and contacted consumer direct 15 days
passed by and still no sign of scs contacting me so therefore i was
directed to trading standards for advise who advised me to give scs
sofas a further 7 days to refund my purchase scs then decided to
contact me to advise a engineer inspection which was last Friday gone
7th august
the engineer attended and at first advised there was no fault with the
sofa i advised there must be as it is making strange noises when
people sitting on it .the engineer (Chris scs Swansea) heard the
noises then advised he would replace one foam on the sofa i advised
that if he was going to replace just one foam the rest of the sofa
would look odd as a brand new foam looks different to one which has
been used for 10 mths and would it be possible to replace the foams on
all the sofas he advised in his words "i will get back to the office
at 4pm and will speak to the manager to get him to replace the foam
give us time to arrange this with head office and call us at 5pm for a
revisit
i left the call till 16.55 spoke to the assistant manager of the
Swansea store Allan who advised me there was no fault found
this infuriated me as yet again i was being fobbed off
i then advised Allan i was taking measures further his reply was "go
on then its the only way you will get anything sorted with this sofa "
after the months of scs telling us there was no way there was any
fault with our purchase we decided to pay a independent upholsterer
who called to our house on Tuesday 7th august
the upholsterer has confirmed there is a fault with the sofa in fact
had the engineer from scs had the decency to open the zip on the
bottom of the settee he would have noticed that the spring was loose
and separated from the sofa and as a result of us only having less
springs than manufactured the remaining springs are bent badly and due
to fail . a bolt has separated from the sofa leaving no support to the
problem seat
i have contacted scs who have advised me the report has not come back
to the head office and are refusing to co operate on any level IE my
fear is they are stalling for time as they have advised at least 14
days for the report to come back when in the past i have had to wait
21 days .
if i give them the 21 days this will exceed my 12 mths warrantee0 -
Purchased corner sofa from ScS sofas for £1300. Day after delivery rang them as wasn't happy with it as half is much softer than the other & really uncomfortable. They sent upholsterer round then wrote to me saying nothing wrong with it. Involved consumer direct & wrote 2 letters stating they were in breach of sale of goods act, got same reply from them saying nothing wrong. Case then passed to Trading standards who suggested they pay half towards independaant upholsterers report, ScS refused so I had to fork out £115. Report agreed that goods weren't fit for purpose in current state so sent this off to ScS with letter requesting refund. They are ignoring this and saying they are not liable. Got trading standards & Barclays finance trying to get this sorted. Just wondered if anyone else has had similar problems & if so how did they get a resolution?
hi im having the same issues i have posted today my problems on the end of this thread and have sent a mail to watchdog too i understand that the more complaints they get the more likely they are to take on the case.
have you had any joy with scs is there any way of shifting them the suite i am having problems with is the torino range courner suite
any help is greatly apriciated0
