Yes I am debt free (yay!!!) which is why I'm mooching around these boards lol.

I'm not sure what to do next. I think the sensible option is to build up 3 months salary. However, I'm thinking about doing a pg in teacher training (Home Economics) starting in Sept 11 so I guess it would be sensible to save up as much as I possibly can between now and then. The mortgage can always wait I guess. I never thought I'd be debt free, so anything else is a bonus. It's very motivating to read everyone's diaries.

well done on becoming debt free SSL, bet you feel great.

I dont hate shopping I just hate spending money lol, did have to buy new trainers for me and DD but combined it was only £18 lol, so treated them to a new top each. I'll look around the charity shops I think, but dont desperately need new tops for me, but like to buy a couple to wear new on hols. I need to have a clear out for what we all have and see if its enough nice looking clothes good enough to take for a week. :) we go july 5th

Not meaning to make you feel lazy. :D We are both on our knees now. Think we will watch flash forward in a minute then an early night. Good to see so much done though.

SSL well done on the debt free again. Must feel great. Have you looked into doing the graduate teacher training programme where you are always in a school. I don't know a lot about it, but i believe you get paid more for doing it that way. The one we had in our department was so good she did all the work in 2 terms and managed to start her NQT term early by doing maternity cover for me. I guess it would be a good time for you as your daughter would be 6th form then? No small babies to worry about. Good luck achieving all you want. Yes i'd go for some savings first too, although you could use overpayments to reduce what you pay monthly, and then have less outgoings while doing your training?

    It feels fantastic! :D

I havent heard anything about doing the training while at school. I think I'll drop DD's HE teacher an email, see if she knows anything about it.

Thanks GFH. The difficulty is that the teacher training for HE is through in Glasgow. I dont have a car, so it would take 2.5 hours travelling each way or I'd need to buy a car, which I really dont want to do. However, I'm going to investigate Michelle's suggestion. That would work out so great for me.

The other thing I was thinking about is about my volunteering. I volunteer on a wednesday afternoon at the CAB. I was thinking about volunteering in the school wef Aug when the kids go back. That way, I'd have some experience. What do you think about that?

Sorry, didnt mean to hijack Michelle's diary about my career! Can I tell you that my veggies are looking great. I've done much more this year and am really excited about them. Is anyone else growing?

    Hi SSL

Deffo look at volunteering in a school, with the recession and all it's really tough getting on to a course. What age and subject? I'm Sec English and as well as some tutoring at uni I did a writing course at our local theatre and those two things got me on (I had previously applied but been rejected).

The other thing, about the distance to uni. Even if you just do the PGCE rather than the graduate thing you don't actually spend that much time in uni. I live in Leeds and we had people coming over from Manchester to do ours but their placement schools were much nearer home. Of course this can't be guaranteed and there were some people with horrendous commutes.

Well done on being debt free - I bet you can't quite believe it can you! :j:beer:

    Oh, hi Michelle! :p:D

We are going to liverpool. Neither of us have been before so anything will be new, we just have to work out what we fancy doing.

My home town, lots of free musuems to go and see, Beatles stuff galore, Albert dock (but think that's there's no much there anymore), Yellow lamb banana statue etc

Ferry/Train/Tunnel across the water to Wirral, lots of nice walks etc

Or sleep for 2 days as you are kid free :rotfl:
    Mortgage Aug 12 £165K, Aug 19 £0
    ISA challenge start 2019 £3000/£1500 (50%)
