  • Hello Cha

Just looking in to see how you are doing. I want you to make sure you pamper yourself a bit, you've got a lot on your plate. Strange dreams often = anxiety. Been there, done that, got blummin' tee-shirt. Don't worry. You are tackling a lot, give yourself a pat on the back for what you've done so far.

Remember, my own MF goal took time, as we allowed ourselves to live too - cheapo hols, Xmas & birthday treats, and some savings. It's a marathon, not a hundred yard sprint, and there will be times you will 'fall off the wagon'. It's ok, don't be too hard on yourself.

You just dust yourself off, put your head up, and climb back aboard. :D

  • Good advice there from butterflymind. Sounds as though you are doing fabulously.

  • Hope you're feeling ok, Michelle. You cannot live without a bathroom for three weeks with two smalls, you'll go mental. You need someone to be in and out really fast.

That's not sad at all. Just popping in to say I always read so thought I should post. I am trying to be in a position to be overpaying our mortgage, but something always pops up as you can see from the signature. Hopefully next year I can tackle it in a bigger way.

I wish I was as dedicated as you. Our money is sort of set up to run itself, which is good in a way, but then it means I'm not as motivated on a daily basis. And it's easy to fall into a mind set like "oh, we've done so well, let's relax a bit and have a takeaway". Then the next day, when I ask OH how much it actually cost, turns out I didn't enjoy it half as much as I thought I did!

So you're so on top of things, it's brill. Every time I read your thread, I go back to look at my spreadsheets "Must do better, must do better, must do..." You make me work harder - thank you!! ;o)
  • Hello again Cha

It's nice to see you are doing so well. You've got a lot of things to juggle (as we did), but I think you are managing incredibly, and really keeping a much tighter watch on where all those stray pennies are going - far more than we did. You know it will be worth it all in the end.

Example: I got nabbled by one of those pushy types at our bank today, you know, 'Do you have a mortgage?' me 'No', then as quick as a flash she said 'Are you likely to have one in the future?'

When I said I owned my home and didn't need one, she actually stood there open-mouthed for a few seconds, as though it's not one she's ever been scripted for! In the end she said I was 'Very young!' for that - as though she expects us all to be old and decrepit by the time a mortgage is paid off - worth bearing that thought in mind next time you are wavering. It's true most people keep re-mortgaging, and going up the housing ladder, upsizing/re-locating, until they finally pay off their mortgages around retirement age, having made the mortgage companies very rich. I wanted to say I'd worked my socks off to pay off their mortgage early, so that I wasn't too old and decrepit to enjoy my life (instead of spending a lifetime servicing a mortgage), but she'd collared me when I was half-way out the door.

Visualise being able to tell those pesky bank (sales) people you don't ever need their services and watch them flounder!

Still - I liked the 'young' bit she said though. I'm not in the knackers yard yet, but, hardly that young! :)
