hotel asking for more money to keep my reservation?!

Hi
A few days ago I booked a weekend at a central London Hotel for the begining of July. It is a hotel I have used before and was surprised when it was so cheap. Anyway I booked it (well it was 90% cheaper than usual!) and have confirmation of my reservation at the cheap price.
Today I receive an email saying that my reservation has not been confirmed due to there being a rate error. They have offered me an upgrade to a "superior room" at a price which I know is considerably cheaper than normal.
Basically they want £200 now to proceed with my reservation.
Where do I stand considering I have already received reservation and confirmation details? Any help would be great so that I know my rights when I respond to their email.

you dont stand anywhere
they made an error and are correcting it with rather good manners
you need to pay up or get a full refund
same for in a shop
imagine if somebody missed off a 0 on the proce for a big telly
you wouldnt be able to buy it at that price, same for you, the reservation makes no difference

well as i said the reservation makes no difference to the rights apart from being able to claim a refund for the amount paid
if your not sure in the legalities dont comment on it
as i said, the op can either pay up, or cancel the reservation as the hotels t&c's will have a right to cancel clause for startersBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -

hmm, once i completed I took a print (as advised by the screen) of a "Confirmation screen".
Doesn't this confirm the deal/agreement? I mean, I worked in retail for quite some time and if something was priced at a certain price (regardless of a system error) then the customer bought it at that price... and I am talking big televisions. On the other hand the customer was protected if they were over charged. I was hoping to say, "thankyou for the offer of an upgrade, but I will stick with a normal room as originally agreed, confirmed and receipted"
If they do not honour this, then I am inthe position of trying to find somewhere else, at my inconvenience and cost. I don't agree that them offering me an upgrade on a room for an extra £200 is reasonable considering their error.0 -
If it has been confirmed, then I would say the contract is made. You will need to check the terms and whether they have the right to cancel.0

sherryspecial, you need to look up the legal definition of Mistake, which is probably applicable here. I am in a hurry at the mo, but if you want to post the name of the website on which you booked the hotel I will check through the t&c's and give you a more definitive answer when I get home later.
Your note about a retailer selling at an advertised price would be down to company policy. If you look up Invitation to Treat this will explain the point in consideration.Gone ... or have I?0 -
