  • Hello everyone! I'm new to Mystery Shopping and signed up to Gap and RE this weekend. The ms threads have been very helpful so far - thanks to all posters! However, I'm still trying to get my head around the tax part. I'm in a full time job and only looking to ms on the side but is it possible to be employed and self-employed?? Do I still need to fill in the self-employed form or do I need to complete another one? Will the taxman be able to see that I am already employed and take this into account or do I need to tell him this as well?

Its just them trying to provide a good service, as if you do the MS well, you will never be spotted!
I disagree. Many of the MS companies do not change the scenarios often enough. They send people back to the same places month after month to ask the same questions or buy the same combination of items. Most of the managers will know what is going to be asked and will therefore take an interest if they overhear that scenario.

Often I know I have been sussed as soon as I ask whatever I'm instructed to:o

Yes, you must fill in the self-employed form. This should be within three months of your first MS job. Also, assuming you are already paying your NI contributions through PAYE and that you will be earning less than £6035 (I think that's the figure) from MS'ing during the year, you should complete the form which removes your obligation to further NI contributions (not sure what this form is called but check out the Inland Revenue website for more info.)

Has anyone done any of the ESA car showroom jobs yet? I was finding it really hard getting any information from the salesmen on the certificate that we are enquiring about. Most of the time it was as if they had never seen one before, despite it being in all the cars.

The last one was simple though, they didn't have any new cars in the brand that I was looking for in stock. Hope I still get paid, but it didn't take long so won't be a major disaster if not.

I've done 3 today, but one had 16 cars in the showroom!! How are you meant to remember how many had what labels in and how big the car was??

I carried a little note book with me and made a note of each car as I went past, what size it was and what labels it had. I had a showroom with 20 cars today! When I approached a sales person I carried on jotting down and they kindly said they could provide me with a pdf to my email to save me scribbing! ;)

I usually use my phone, but just as I started, a salesman came up to me!
