Our heating is off and has been for the last couple of days. I was hoping it would stay off but we are forecast some cold nights next week. We do have a gas fire in the lounge which we put on if it gets really cold, trouble is pc is in dining room, so it does get cold sat here.MFW 1/5/08 £45,789 Cleared mortgage 1/02/13

Ours is on very low - but never on overnight . Comes on half an hour before we get up and goes off half an hour before we go to bed.

alyth wrote:Heating, what's heating!!! I live in an old 40 roomed hospital that we're converting back into a house, in rural (freezing!) Scotland, and we've survived without heating for nearly 4 years now.... we have plug in heaters and coal fires, and after slaving away for hours on end at night lighting fires, we're finally getting heating installed next week at the cost of a small house! And, guess what, Scottish Hydro have just whacked their prices up by 16% from next month - so, even with heating in, I won't be turning it on unless it gets to minus 10! It's amazing that you really can survive without it, we live in layers, and in the winter we gauge how cold it is by how many layers we wear - we got up to 5 once - in October I go to Primark and buy fleecy tops from size 10 to 16 and line them up accordingly in the wardrobe so I can just lift a layer at a time! Thankfully we'll have 6 months to save up over the summer so we can actually switch the heating on -watch the National Grid soar when we do!

I very rarely have the heating on at my place anyway, as I get warm very quickly.
Although here at my Dads, the heating is off and I am absolutely FREEZING today.
Might have to sweet talk him in a mo to turn it up a little bit.

Still got heating on here, place is usually around 19C in the morning and stays around 21/22 during the day. Using a dehumidifier has also helped though as it's dried the place out a bit and it certainly is warmer after it's been run for a while. Going to be cold here next week so heating is still on and shall be until there has been a warm spell for a while. I had cut all my electricity usage to the bone the last few months as SH had put their prices up on Jan 31st and I was doing well, just owing them £1.30 this month, whereas last month I was in debt to them by £57 odd. Now they are putting their prices up for electricity by 9.4% from 1st May. Hope it warms up soon. Primark open here soon too so I'll have to stock up on fleeces too, thanks for the tip.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

Heating off completely for a couple of days now, and only on minimally for the last month.
Our best purchase of the last few years has been a woodburner - focal point of the living room and fuel is free as we're burning our old roof timbers, rotten joists and former kitchen units. Still plenty more left for next winter, even if it gets lit a few more times in the next month or so. About 4 minutes before I saw this thread, I suddenly realised me and the OH were both boiling hot and I've switched it off, as well as put the Electric Heater into Spring hibernation

We've only got the two storage heaters and our flat doesn't seem to warm up much even during the day so I can see them staying on for a while yet.
Oh how I'd have loved to have been in Warwick where 'it wasn't that cold' when we had snow up to our naughty bits in February!DFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!
