I have emailed Amazon and asked them to get involved because it is their name that is on the card.

If you want to do the same, logon to your Amazon account and click the "contact us" at the bottom of the page. The more people that complain to Amazon the more likely they are to help.
  • While no one likes to be charged fees, if it's in the t&c's its only fair you pay this now. Even if they did send the wrong form, you still agreed to those terms. Also, credit card products are changing all the time, so it's common practice for credit card companies to send out a different offer with the credit agreement.

To the person who recorded the call, it is illegal to do so without asking permission first.

I think the point is that they weren't charged a fee at the time.
I think if they say they are recording the call then you can too.

    Fair???????????

We applied for this card through a direct link in response to an advert stating that this card was balance transfer free.

We then had this confirmed by customer service operators at the time we made our balance transfers.

You think it is now FAIR to charge us this 6 months after the account was opened!!

For your information my T&C's stated the following:-

"We MAY charge a handling fee of 2% (At least £2) for balance transfers and cheques offered at special promotional rates other than a special rate you received when your account was opened"

    This is totally ambiguous.

This has been complete misrepresentation by both Halifax staff and the Amazon website and false advertising by Amazon!

Tell me who can afford to bear this charge more, us or the Halifax and then talk about fair!!

Has anyone received any replies to emails or anything regarding this today?

I had the standard back from Amazon saying contact Halifax but I emailed back saying that was good enough etc etc.

The thing is, the T&C's you quote above are clearly saying that no transfer fee will be charged on the promotional BT rate you received when the account was opened. They only say they may charge a fee on other, future promo rates.

    Fight it all the way!

Thank you Glen, that was my feeling exactly!!

The consumer action group have phoned me today in response to the email I sent them and they have advised to go through the Halifax complaints procedure and then if still not happy to contact the financial ombudsman.

Has anyone else had any replies to emails/phone calls yet?

I got a letter from amazon in August with revised T&C's saying any BT's from THEN on would be subject to 2% fee, no mention of retrospective charges. Ive cleared the balance on my amazon account since then and there's no charges for my original transfers, which i confirmed at the time i made the transfers.
It always did say we MAY make a charge for BT's so they're obviously discriminating on who they charge but any retrospective must be unacceptable, if they were accepted charge-free at the time they were made.
