Wharfedale LCD TVs - are they any good?

    Some people in china bought the right to use the Wharfedale name and hence why we have cheap Wharfedale products which (in my opinion) don't live up to the brand name that was Wharfedale.

  • Hi, can anyone help me find a FLAT wall mounting plate for my Wharfedale 32" LCD tv with 40cm centres to attach to the tv. I have got a universal one but it is ugly when viewed from the side and sticks out from the wall too far even tho I have not fitted the tilt brackets. I purchased a flat mount that boasted it was suitable for tv's up to 37" but the centers are only 20cm whereas I need 40cm centers to the flat mount. Thanks.
  • I bought a Wharfedale 22" HD Ready TV from Argos yesterday and I must admit it has exceeded my expectations. I considered buying one of the "better" brands, as I know that paying less often means getting less, but I saw no point in throwing in an extra EUR150 for a TV with the same specs (resolution, ratio etc.)

    As far as Im concerned Wharfedale wouldn't be selling the rights to their brand to a manufacturer who will butcher their name.. I have no problems with the picture, functionality or look of the TV. As far as Im concerned it is money well saved.

    Would have been nice, but you are wrong. They wouldn't have sold the name at all if they weren't strapped for cash. Fact is respected name on cheap goods fools enough people to make a really decent profit, it's been done time and time again.

    Picked up a 22" digtial HD LCD with DVD today. Connected it up and it was d oddle. Had a little play with it and all seems fine and dandy at present
  • Bought a Wharfedale 32" LCD from local Clearance Bargains outlet Oct 2006. Now no good. Although outside 1 year guarantee, felt I might have a case for "not as durable as might be expected" under the sale of goods act. E-mailed Clearance Bargains and was referred back to store. Store manager referred me to manafacturer. I have all original documentation including operating manual but, there are no contact details. Any ideas what my next step should be?:confused:

    Its a Argos (Home Bargains) own brand item so you need to contact them
  • Thanks for that. I know Argos stores don't accept returns on goods purchased from their Clearance Bargains outlets. I think this is based on the fact that everything handled by CB is from the previous Argos book. However, I will give them a go and see how they respond. Will update here and hopefully provide useful info for others on the "not as durable as might be expected angle"

    Wharfedale are no better or no worse than any other brand, with so many takeovers nowadays you never know who makes what, many of the renowned Companies are manufactured in china and rebranded,I have a wharfdale tv for a couple of years with no problems, branding nowadays is an absolute minefield, look at dyson, where do you think its made now.
  • Having tried all 21st century forms of communication without success I wrote to Argos via snail mail using the "not as durable as might be expected" bit.

    They are unwilling to do anything without sight of an independent report confirming that the fault is due to a manufacturing defect. Such a report would cost "about £90 mate" from someone my local, friendly electronic dealer knows. That's a £90 spend that, if the report showed a manufacuring defect, they would reimburse, if they considered £90 to be a reasonable cost. A £90 gamble that, if successful, guarantees me "further consideration" and nothing more.

    At this point, I have decided to cut my losses and take a lesson that it really is a case of "buyer beware" & "you get what you pay for".

    Future big purchases will include a robust extended guarantee...
