Obviously, yes. But I still think they should have done a little analysis of my situation before offering such a low limit. Had they done so I think they'd have recognised that I'm a good potential customer. I'd have been happy to provide them with details of my financial situation.

Still, as I said, no real harm done - as a life-long M&S customer and supporter, I just wanted to vent and to let others here know about it. Sadly, it's come back and bitten me in the ar*ehole that I am apparently so far up!

Do you actually understand how credit card applications are assessed ?

If you are so financially sound why would you have a good few credit accounts that you do not pay off in full.

Do you enjoy giving money away or something ?

May I ask, why did you feel you needed another credit card?

The M&S card is issued by HSBC, think it used to be MBNA a while back. I read an article on a USA website and they said creditors' there look at your 'lines' of credit already in operation to judge credit limits. Guess they do that over here too:rolleyes:

Look, everyone, can we just leave it here? You've won, OK, and I've lost.

I'll cancel my sub to this thread now, as I've rattled so many people's cages that it's becoming singularly unpleasant. All I wanted to do was vent at M&S's stupidity and I'm being treated like a criminal!

Just to repeat - you have won. You are right and I am wrong. Done and over with! OK?

It wasn't a criticism, I was honestly asking you why.

    Wish you all the best

M&S used to issue their own cards before being bought out by MBNA.

Both of them might ben on the same Business Park, but they are independant of each other
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

M&S is owned by its shareholders - what do you mean by it's a 'Jewish company'?
Well it was set up by a Jewish guy, much of its senior management is Jewish, and it has pretty strong trade links with Israel (not that I'm saying thats a good or bad thing, but lots of anti Israel type websites love to rant about how its an evil Zionist company).
