Just thought it might be useful to mention that Mothercare currently have two 10% off codes that work together online. More info can be found here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1705795&page=6 and you also get free delivery over £150.

Don't forget Quidco for another 5% in cashback. Very useful if you need to make a big purchase such as a pram etc...

Been reading this thread with great interest - all the more so because expecting 1st baby but about to be made redundant (without a lot of warning - so you see Quote - even if you plan carefully sometimes events can overtake you!!!). TBH I have never been a 'label' shopper - and happy with own-brand stuff for me & DH so don't see why baby should be any different!

Am very happy to read that lots of the ideas on here are the sort of way I intended to go - cloth nappies, re-usable wipes, Ebay, Ikea etc. Sadly Freecycle in my area is pretty useless, and there's only a couple of car-boots which are not too hot either! Will have to try checking out some of the 'posher' areas around and see what they have going on!

One question - how soon did you start buying stuff? We've had problems conceiving and staying PG (as you'll see from my sig), so DH is quite superstitious about buying things too early - but I am relatively confident this time around and don't want to miss out on any bargains by being too cautious IYSWIM?

Thanks again for all the tips so far,

    FE.

So if you don;t have wipes, how DO you get the meconium poo off? I'm guessing that Cif isn;t allowed! :p
I just used a face flannel in some warm water with a teeny bit of baby soap/shampoo. Far, far easier than baby wipes (bigger and thicker for a start!) and no nasty chemicals. I saw people struggle with cotton wool and water and that looked hard work!

Fairyelephant - I didn't buy any of the big stuff till way past 20 weeks... once we had the 20 week scan under our belt I was a lot happier about buying things like pram, cot etc :)

I didnt buy anything until after 20 wks either but found Mothercare quite good for pram and big things (although only got pram from there) as they do a plan where you can pay up and they deliver on a day you want. Worked well for me and pram was delivered 2 wks before baby :rotfl:
Also doing this you can always change your mind on design .......

Fairyelephant - I have to say I only started looking properly after I hit 20 weeks and the only "big stuff" I have bought is a pram (secondhand from a friend). It is hard to resist though.
Tegan Lily arrived 4 November 2009 (3 days late)

Floyd Peter arrived 9th July 2011 (1 day early) :D

Fairyelephant- I searched to see what I wanted before 20 weeks but didn't want to buy anything until I had had my 2nd scan and I knew everything was going well.
Then at wk22 mamas and papas had a sale on my pram so I had to get it then didn't I?
I think lately there have been loads of bargains so don't worry if you miss one something else will come along.
Keep checking on the vouchers section aswell if you are buying new as I got my car seat with 15% off from halfords which was cheaper than buying from M&P in the first place and then got another 15% off and it was delivered direct from M&P in Huddersfield.
    Best of luck!
  • Well, I've bought my first 'baby stuff' - face flannels at 5 for £1 for the £1 shop, to use as re-usable wipes (they only had 1 pack in white and for some reason I feel they need to be white ones! Will keep an eye open for more if they get them in). Also some white hand towels from Ikea at 69p each to use for baby towels or very large wipes!

DH still insists that we don't get stuff until at least 20 weeks, but managed to get the flannels & towels past him!

Been looking at shops and websites to get an idea of stuff we 'need' and stuff I 'want' and making lists of both, and keeping an eye on Ebay just in case an unmissable bargain comes along.....
