Wow thanks everyone for everything you have told me so far.

    I have now:
    - put a WANTED on freecycle. Already had an offer of a cot but unfortunately had to say I already had one.

    - emailed a friend who's youngest child is almost 2 to ask if she wants to lend me some stuff and she has said yes she'll make a list for me! I have said to her that if she does have another child she can always have the stuff back anyway!

I am now off to sign up to Tesco, Boots, etc.

If anyone has more info about re-usable nappies I would really welcome it. Have looked at usednappies.co.uk and have to say it all seems a bit over my head!
Tegan Lily arrived 4 November 2009 (3 days late)

Floyd Peter arrived 9th July 2011 (1 day early) :D

Karen1907 - where do you live? Are you in England or Scotland?? Not that it matters but I can give you details of a place in Stirling that has brilliant real nappies

Unfortunately Elf06 I am in Norwich so would be quite a trek to Stirling - any chance they have a website or will post orders?

You can try http://www.thenappylady.co.uk/ for free advice on washable nappies.

I got mine at the Baby Show where I talked with a consultant from http://www.teamlollipop.co.uk/ who was able to go through the pros and cons of all different brands of nappies, not just the Lollipop ones. As a result I got totsBots for day and Lollipop bamboo for night, although I still plan to do elimination communication I'm realistic enough to know I will still need some nappies.

As an addition on EC - i was trying to describe it in layman's terms, not to make it sound like potty training
It is really training yourself to understand your baby's needs (same way as you do for feeding) and requires a lot of attention so is really only any good for attachement parenting.
However, it is very common in lots of other cultures and I'm pretty sure we would have done it over here too before the invention of nappies. It might seem unusual but it feels ot me far more natural than training your baby to sit in its own waste and than later retraining them not to.
It is alwasy easier to defend the norm than the non-norm, especially on MSE, but I do stand by ti being a good method that works for many people - I've done a great deal of research on it and spoken to women about it, and I do believe that if I can get myself doing it properly then it is better for baby and for me in the long run.

Anyway, off my soapbox now but just wanted to clarify that as anything vaguely different always seems to get a bit jumped on here on MSE, and I do feel that different isn;t automatically 'wrong'. Choose your own path, and all that.
    :)

Hmmm cant see why they wouldnt post them out - they have sent some things to me. There website is pure nappies dot com. I cant post links yet but you can either google real nappies stirling or use the site I mentioned. I got some great bamboo nappies but they have changed the name of them so not really sure what the called anymore.

I'd tend to wait until someone offers (you never know they might be in early days of another pregnancy and not want to let on yet, or just feel that they have to because you ask) but this seems to have worked out ok for you :).
On nappies, www.babykind.co.uk is good and they have agents in many areas.

Some great tips on here, thanks!!

We picked up a pack of 7 cotton sleep suits (short-sleeved) from Tesco yesterday, they had sizes up to 18 months for £2.50 so 36p each.

Also I got lots of Ikea hand towels for wiping up spills etc for 28p each from the Ikea in Bristol. They are 60cm x 40cm so quite a good size.

    Hope this helps someone x

Not sure if I'm allowed to post this, but the big clearance sale at Argos starts 26th July (I work for Argos) so if you can wait, there are normally soem good bargains to be had.

just to say Tesco sleep suits are as good as much more expensive ones. DS has had sleepsuits and vests and they are fine. The only thing I'd say is the sizes are quite generous, if you have an average sized baby, e.g. DS was in 12-18 months until about 1 month ago and he is 2. He is average-small sized. hth

I used electric in hospital and manual at home.
    Electric
Pros: quicker, no sore arm, can do more than one side at once with some (although I never did)
    Cons: horrible noise!
    Manual
Pros: quiet, can set own speed more gently (even though electric are multi speed, I prefer manual touch).
    Cons: sore arm
All in all I preferred the manual one, and was not expressing that frequently. I still managed to get plenty though!
    Not sure if this helps!
