    Thanks Everyone

My council give £30 off reusable nappies which I though was pretty good.

I have a lot of researching to do...........
Tegan Lily arrived 4 November 2009 (3 days late)

Floyd Peter arrived 9th July 2011 (1 day early) :D

It is a help, but I paid £243 for my 20 nappies with bucket and a few other bits, so you still need money for the initial outlay, but it's still cheaper than Pampers!

Really? Like what? They have all seemed quite normal suggestions to me.

how about a sling instead of a pram/travel system. you can get a cheaper buggy when baby is 6 months.
tesco, boots and aldi/lidl do good own brand nappies. own brand wipes are half the price.

breastfeeding saves a fortune, no formula, bottles and less medical bills.

you don't need a steriliser unless you are using formula, dummies can be washed in very hot water and will be fine.

clothes line and clothes horses for drying the laundry.
fancy clothes for babies are so not worth it, if you get presents, return them for practical things.

tesco baby clothes are good value

i am dressing my girl in leggings and tops, very versatile, long or short sleeve top according to weather, her legs won't get too long for leggings.

    enjoy!

also, set up space to keep all the little bits you don't use or remove as baby gets older. these can help the resale value!

I'm with Lydia82 on this one. Why would anyone be proud of the fact that they can get second hand stuff for free? I understand that this is a money saving site, but if you're having a baby it's a bit chuffing late to be thinking about how you can save money. How about a bit of responsibility? How about making sure you can afford the best of everything for your child before you start squeezing them out?

I've heard that old newspapers can be used to clean bottoms/wipe up sick/sooth aching nipples/insulate your loft/etcetera

And, apparently, they're one of your five a day.

    !!!!!!.

I took great responsibility for my children when they came along but if I wanted to buy something for them and saw the same item second hand, in good condition, free or cheaper why on earth wouldn't I take it and save some money for when they really needed something. I am also conscious of recycling so second hand goods are always an option in my book ;). Buying a second hand pram is hardly depriving a child. I'm not a complete tree hugger and they got lots of new things but I am happy to save a bit of money if I can. It doesn't make me tight and it doesn't make me ashamed. I am more than proud of the upbringing my girls have had and how I teach them the value of money in spite of the fact that we are comfortably off. We don't throw money away on unnecessary things and have nice holidays and days out instead.
Your post smacks of a real snobbish attitude to reused items which I find quite sad. I thought the credit crunch might rid some people of their materialism and affluenza but apparantly not.
  • watch out for sainsburys half price events,
they do one for nappies and another for toiletries, usually about every 3 months,i always stock up and save a fortune,
all the best and good luck
p.s cosykid on ebay (baby shop) have some great stuff at resonable prices
