Actually I took a size 36A and 36B, neither fitted. One too small, the other too big. It was a different style of bra to the one I usually wear (a balcony style), but I fancied a change. However not all styles of bra suit everybody and it seems for me, I couldn't get a good fit.
and they wouldn't let you exchange the bra for anything else, including food in store?

What on earth has that go tto do with anything ???

Chances are your not going to get anything back from M&S under there hygiene rules.

Cut your losses, sell the bra on ebay. and next time get yourself measured instead of double guessing.

Nothing, it is irrelevant. As was the comment I was responding too.

Lol, hygiene rules. M&S allow you to return bra's that have not been worn with a valid receipt as I've already said.

I've returned the bra and got my money back, but not the voucher, again as I've already said. I know my size, but different styles of bra's fit differently.

Maybe read the thread before you reply?

At the very least I expected an apology for the incorrect information that was given to me. I think this is at least courteous and is the first step in good customer service.

And if you had taken the name of the person who gave you the incorrect information, I'm sure they would have apologised.

To say making a note of everyone you come into contact with in a store is nigh on impossible, I agree with. BUT if you are asking for information which could later be mis-interpreted, then you should have made sure you got their name. It only takes 2 mins to put a note on your mobile (I presume you have one?) or even still, it's not hard to remember ONE persons name, which you could write down at the next available opportunity you get. You don't NEED to remember everyones name, just that one person...

    Hi

Sorry, I think I misinterpreted your original post. I am more than willing to listen to other people's opinions. I normally post on another board and have been surprised on this board how quickly blame seems to be implicated towards the customer. Suggestions that trying on underwear is unhygienic, that I should have gotten the correct size or gotten measured, it was my own fault for not trying it on at the time are all irrelevant, given the Terms and Conditions of M&S returns policy and to be honest, I've perceived it as 'bashing'. Something I'm quite surprised by for a website that appears to promote moneysaving and good customer service.

However, it is really interesting that these posts that I've seen as unhelpful and irrelevant seem to suggest that posters on this board think there shouldn't be a returns policy for bra's. I'm really surprised by that. Bra's are expensive and difficult to purchase items as it is. The sizing often differs between stores, between styles and even within styles. I'm sure I'm not the only person who's tried on two items of the same size before in the same shop and they've fitted slightly differently. Just subtle (or sometimes large) differences in the cut make a huge difference to the fit.

Regarding hygiene, I've never considered it an issue regarding bra's. Of course, knickers and bikini bottoms are a different matter. However, unless there's some leakage, boobs are just skin and therefore I don't think of it as being much different to trying on a top or trousers. I'm interested to know, is it just bra's people consider unhygienic to try on or all garments that come into contact with skin? If it is all garments, does that mean there should be a no returns policy on all clothes and shoes?

I'd be interested to hear people clarify their views with regards to the above, if they'd like to.

    Gwen

I see what you're saying and agree to some extent. However, it is entirely forseeable that you might encounter an issue when you did not expect it. For instance, you get mischarged at the till. Maybe the store can't track which employee served you? Never mind, you're out of pocket.

I just don't think this is an excuse. The store is responsible for its employees and I think if there is any doubt, good customer service should be employed and the customer at least issued an apology.

I used to work in a restaurant. The number of times, I've been presented with food with 'hair' in it. Often a long blonde hair, by a girl with long blonde hair. All the chefs are men with short dark hair. However, if I'd implied that the girl had put it there and refused to replace the food, I'd have expected to have been sacked. That wasn't in line with the customer service training I received. Good customer service is all about leaving the customer wanting to return to your store/restaurant.

RE: The hygeine issue; even pants/knickers are fine to be tried on, if over your own underwear. Most bikini bottoms have a sticker in them on the gusset for hygeine and I do wonder why pants/knickers don't.
