Quote: I'm not a brownie or beaver leader - I spent all of my childhood until I went to uni benefiting from guiding though, and most of my relatives have been or are involved in one or other of the organizations (I keep hammering away trying to volunteer myself but the email gets so far down the line and then gets lost in the system with no reply).

Please, please persevere to volunteer we are desperately short of leaders.Try finding your nearest Rainbow/Brownie/Guide unit and go and ask if they need help. If they dont I am sure they will know someone who does or will put you in touch with the District Commissioner who will help.

I must admit I must have missed the posts on this thread that have said this - or are you talking about folks in general?

I feel the same, don't think anyone has said about financial gain for the leaders/volunteers?

I echo my previous post, I only have praise for the volunteers who do a fantastic job. x

I thought I must have skimmed past it too. Think dizziblond must be jumping to conclusions.

  • I pay £2 a week for my son to go to Beavers for an hour and a half. Extra activities (camp, outings etc) are extra cost.

I remember back in the good old days when I used to go Brownies and we used to pay 30p a week! :D

Brownies where I live is £1.75 a week for 1 1/2 hours and Rainbows £1.50 for an hour.

I think this is excellent - my girls get so much from it and get to experience things they don't get to do with mum and dad. My elder DD is having a sleepover in a school this weekend and she is so excited!

Pack hol is expensive though - £120 for 5 days. When DD2 starts Brownies next year I am going to have to start saving early!

Regarding volunteers I would love to help and am also asking rainbow/brownie leader if they need any help but it seems to be a strictly family only affair:)
  • Both of my children go to Beavers at the cost of £32 per term each and I feel that this is excellent value. I would never think of asking for any sort of sibling discount, my children are taking up two spaces therefore two spaces should be paid for.

Thanks to this thread i've remembered the fun I had when in the Guides & am going to contact someone to volunteer (I looked on the websiter & they sent me the name of somebody)

I hope they have something with the Brownies or Rainbows! It'd be amazing to volunteer with such a great organisation & bring back memories i'm sure

Pack Holidays and Guide camps are usually very much cheaper than school residential trips. The main expense we have is the cost of a coach.Because of this we now tend to go on Pack Holiday reasonably nearby and ask parents to transport the girls hence our cost of £50 for 4 days which includes 10 pin bowling, cinema, meal out and all activities!

    Expensive ???

where-else could you get 24 hour care, meals, entertainment, sporting & craft activities and an element of education for £24 a day ??

Excellent value for money if you ask me.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

I think Brownies is worth every penny too! I was a brownie and a guide and dd has just as much fun now as we did!

She is taking part in the giant sleepover tomorrow night and will have a great time, I'm sure!

She doesn't stay over anywhere so it's good for her to have this opportunity imo. We've had some nerves (she was adamant she was not going when I paid the deposit!) but the leaders have been great at reassuring her and she's now looking forward to it! Even slept in her sleeping bag last night, to practise! :D
