Hiya,
I currently have Norton AntiVirus Programme but its due to expire in 4 days. I got it at a reduced price when i brought my laptop. I cant really afford to pay for a new one as its not that cheap.
Im not to keen on the free ones like AVG as i dont think its as good as Norton.Any recommendations wuld be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

What kind of price did you see Norton for? It's £34 on this site(Amazon) at the moment, but I got it for £23 several months ago.

You say it's Norton Antivirus? (The link above is for Internet Security - the next step up, so the antivirus by itself will be cheaper.)

Others on here will tell you Norton is rubbish and to go with the free ones, but to be honest, I've never had any problems with Norton, and with the 2009 version, the free ones tend to be much slower on my computers.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
Yeah you're right people probably will tell you it's rubbish.
I personally agree that its pants (detection rate wise)
Avira for me all day long. Free, great quality what more do you need.0 -
Hi, I use Kaspersky's internet security and find it pretty good, it's well worth a look.
If you bank online with Barclays you can get it free for a year (bottom left on the At a Glance page).0 -
Avira for me. After you've installed it google 'remove avira update popup' and follow the instructions, will remove the annoying ad everytime you update.0

According to the reviews I've read Norton AV 2009 is an improvement over previous versions, but the concept of paying a subscription fee to protect an operating system that barely tries to protect itself doesn't sit well with me.
I've installed AVG Free on every system I've owned for years and until relatively recently would have recommended it wholeheartedly. Now, I don't use traditional anti-virus applications at all. I do install and run the odd anti-malware utility occasionally... and in most cases have found nothing besides a handful of tracking cookies. Can't be absolutely certain of course, but I'm reasonably sure that my primary system has not once succumbed to any serious infection.
A router with a built-in firewall sits between me and the 'net, Windows Firewall is left to its own devices and I use SpywareBlaster to 'vaccinate' my PC. The only thing besides the firewall that is actually running is ThreatFire, and I suspect I could replace it with a placebo without serious consequence.
With the help of alternative web browsers, applied knowledge and a little common sense, I haven't had to worry too much about malware since.
That said, I suggest you check out Panda Cloud Antivirus. And Morro, whatever that turns out to be...0 -
Bitdefender is £11 for 3 PC's (1 year) in staples and has excellent detection rates and a light system footprint. I would highly recommend it.
Remember to run the Norton removal tool before installing the new antivirus.0 -
Norton 'runs' better than it used to. But it still doesnt 'perform' too well judging from the problems ive seen.
KASPERSKY if you want to pay (Def' get it for under 20 quid)
or
AVIRA for free
and use MALWAREBYTES whatever you get as a secondary scanner:idea:0 -

Your going on record to say that the latest Norton runs QUICKER than Avira?:idea:0 -
Kaspersky if you want to pay or Avast for a good free one.0
