This gets on my nerves. I too am a size 8. I have never dieted or had a regime for exercise a day in my life. I have tried to put on weight, and I can't. People think it's perfectly okay to pass comment on my weight. I've even had people blatantly joke that I may be bullimic (I eat A LOT!!). The comment of the month is "skinny mare" Why do people think it's acceptable to do this? I'd never walk up to an obese person and call them a fat hefer and expect to get away unscolded. It really gets on my (lack of ) tits.

Most of us who are clinically, but nor morbidly, obese (ie BMI just over 30) are there because of indiscipline and bad diet. Some of us are in denial of the fact our size is largely our own fault, which leads to incidents such as you describe...

it doesn't matter how much training you have, some people will just shout and scream until they get what they want.

I agree, but usually it's shouting and screaming and they still get nowhere. It's not like you have what they want, but you're keeping it hidden on purpose because you like the abuse denying them brings

It's like a big toddler tantrum really. All of a sudden they've regressed to age 2 when they lie on the floor hitting it with their fists going "I want it!! I want it NOW!!! You get it for me NOW!!! Waaaaaah." Except there's no mummy and daddy to pick them up off the floor, tell them off for showing themselves up, and threaten to take them back home unless they behave! Toddler power with no fear of reprisal.....

They should either find an alternative item, or go elsewhere and just deal with it like a grown up. But unfortunately you have the people who've had bad days/thrive off a good moan and want someone to shout at who isn't going to "bite back".
Do good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....

Being nice always helps with me...I'm more likely to go out of my way to help someone who isn't rude.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I feel sorry for the tesco checkout staff, judging by the amount of thread on MSE of people whinging about the challenge 25 thing, they must be getting a lot of abuse!

I've heard ALOT worse than that. There are alot of nasty, inconsiderate and just plain rude people out there.
But they are the ones who are embarassing themselfs in front of other customers. i never see a customer ranting and raving or being rude to a member of staff and think to myself 'oh yeah, you tell them!' .......... no, i think 'what an a*se'

this extends to all retail businesses not just check out people. The amount of grief i see my staff have on the railway is shocking when things are just not their fault.

That's all. You're like one of the kids at school. can give it but you can't take it.

Name calling. Very mature. I don't know/can't remember what I was 'crying' about but get over it. Get a life and stop spending so much time on message boards sending odd private messages to random people. Like the kids at school, I've been told to stay away from creepy old men. Welcome to ignore.

i was a checkout supervisor at asda, one of only 4 male members of staff. the scan speeds came in (as mentioned in the article in the link earlier in the thread) at 24 items per minute, we discovered a way of messing with the system so scan speeds were anything up to 90 items per minute.

ok so customers got reciepts that were twice the size but the staff were more motivated on the 14 hour shifts
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

I trust BH even if he's from Manchester.. ;)

Bit of a mixed bag at work today. Had one very obnoxious customer who was very angry that we dont have stock of a Nikon d40.

Ok....firstly, if the item isn't in stock, that's not my fault. Supply and demand and all that, stock isn't infinite.

Secondly, as I explained three times, the item is discontinued by the manufacturer, so we couldn't stock it anyway, because it doesn't exist any more.

She then ranted saying that my company should make its own range of mid/low end SLR cameras for people like her, and there MUST be cheaper cameras around so why don't >I< stock them?

Jeez, you don't go into a ferrari dealer and get aggressive because they don't sell fiat pandas.

The other customer I had trouble with today, I felt a bit sorry for, because it was a sort of worst case scenario. She'd had a camera for over a year and it had gone wrong. She'd been through the insurance channels and it was agreed that she'd have a spec for spec replacement to the value of £199 that she'd paid for the camera.

The only problem is that the one camera that matched the spec of her older (discontinued) camera was discontinued, leaving just the display model, which she didn't want.

The next nearest camera was £399 and understandably she didn't want to pay another £200.

I managed to find a shop that still had some of the suitable camera left and it's been left with them to send it to us to pass on to her. I'm amazed she didn't blow a gasket. She was quite annoyed about the situation, but was very reasonable.

It's a shame when the people who are reasonable have to wait for something to be resolved, but we're not miracle workers :(.
