I came to go online after work and have got no internet connection, Im using my PAYG dongle at the mo.
My Mums been online today no problems - Ive checked all the leads, re booted the computer but no luck - internet icon says connected but no internet?
We are with BT and they I find are never helpful and takes ages to get to speak to someone.
Im leaving it a bit but has anyone got any ideas what to try?
I dont want to pay for anyone to come out so just hope its a short blip with BT connection hopefully, if not will have to ring them.
Wish I knew more about computers!!
Any ideas about what to try?
Thanks!

You say your mum's ok. Does she use the same internet connection as you?
Have you tried rebooting your router?0 -

Phoning BT is never a good idea. They have a script they will run through which will have you running round in circles. AlisonT states that her mum has been online and it has been ok.0

Thanks we live in the same house and Mum was online when I got home. Im not sure how to reboot the router? Last time I messed abvout with it I had to get someone in as Im no good at sorting IT issues out!
I never get anywhere with BT - they always say to unscrew the BT socket from the wall and other things like that!
We have not had the storms here today otherwise Id of thought that might be the cause but I know they have had storms about 10 miles away really bad, dont know if that has anything to do with it?
Will keep trying and hope it works later! Otherwise Im stuck:rolleyes::oSealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

Can your mum still get on? Can you say what lights are currently on, on the router? Is the internet light on or off?
With regards to re-booting the router, just turn it off, wait a few seconds and turn it on again. It will then have to re-connect itself to the internet.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
Hi No we all share one main computer here so Mum cant get on, Im only online via by slow but sure vodaphone dongle! Very useful that is at times.
Right have turned router off and back on still the same,
Have got the power light and the number 1 light on but no internet light on.
Norton has kicked in at 8pm to do Its full weekly scan - didnt think that would work?
Still saying 'local area connection is now connected 100 Mbps' but no internet.
Weird!
Not sure what else I can do - really dont want to try BT they have never helped before.
If worst happens and no internet we were thinking of getting a scanner/colour printer/ copier all in one soon then asking this techie friend of someone at work over to sort it all, but would like to get the internet back myself, rather than waiting for someone to come and sort it.

Start / Run / type CMD enter
type ping https://www.google.co.uk and post the result
easiest way to eliminate possible problems is to start with the easy ones.0 -
If the internet light isn't on, then there is probably a fault, and it's totally out of your control! At least on my router, if the internet light isn't on, that means it hasn't connected, so I assume it's the same with all routers!
Might seem like a random question, you don't happen to live in Manchester or Barnsley area? (It's not actually a random question!)Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0
