... Which you still have to pay for, like everything else. As the saying goes 'nothing's free in this world' and if I reiterate what you quoted in your other post "A person is guilty of theft, if he A) dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another B)with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it

    A) "They lose the rights that they have to distribute their material to whoever, and in a whatever method they wish to"

    B) If you download the none-royalty free media without paying then yes, you are permanently depriving the other of money.

But in all seriousness they are providing a service not a property not sure how the law handles this. Computer misuse act or communications act.

Addtionally, if it was copyright infrigement it wouldn't include distribution of the material unlike P2P file sharing so would be a civil matter with the copyright holder and not the crown.

Well, there you go, the same will apply for digital copywrited material :) Dishonestly obtaining is another word for steeling.

Nope afraid not a copyright does not have the same legal status as property or services. Comparing cable theft and file sharing is like comparing apples and oranges.

I think it may be prudent to agree to disagree. I would encourage you to look into the subject more though it is quite an interesting concept.

I'm just an English Literature student so I enjoy analysing and pulling stuff apart :) If you can prove it then it's correct. Anyway speaking of laws and rules it's not good to triple posts ;)

The one thing I've never found all that appealing about sourcing music digitally is the emotional disconnection. From the age of about nine I've been buying music and I can look back on what I have bought and I have an emotional attachment to that, for better or for worse. At last count I've got over 600 CDs from over the years, and I reckon that I can tell you exactly where I got each one, and what I was going through at the time and what the music reminds me of. Sitting down and playing one of them and reading the book, admiring the literature accompanying it really sets physical aside from digital and it's something that I hope I don't see the end of..

But there's a "me want, me get" culture going on where there's very little appreciation for the value of anything anymore. This isn't just reflective in music, but films and software. For a while it hasn't seemed acceptable to get an application to edit photos, it has to be Photoshop, for word processing it has to be Microsoft Office etc.

My views might be slightly biased being a musician, although don't get me started on software piracy ;)

Fair point and noted. But if you want to be fussy maybe you should check the rules of spelling and grammar and spell stealing correctly. ;)

ahhhh that's English language where you have to spell everything correctly, :p not literature. So don't start with the political correctness.

That will be why Chaucer's spelling is so horrible. ;)
