Which manufacturers charge £30 to £90 for media for OSes which come licensed on the PC? Dell charge at most a fiver, but all the systems I've had it has been a free option.
I'm happy for any ISP to crack down on illegal file-sharing, theft is a menace in whatever guise.0 -
Nanny state.
Fight and vote for Net Neutrality.
The main problem being is that a lot of people use P2p for genuine legal file sharing. Not just material that is copyrighted.
Becomes a bit silly and I highly doubt the system Virgin is using will be able to monitor their millions of customers effectivley. I mean, it's Virgin...people who can't send out a bill properly, etc.0 -

lol....
Regardless of what I use p2p connecitons for, being monitored is just another step towards a Nanny State mentality.
Royal mail deliver my letters in SEALED envelopes. Information that belongs to people is sensitive and they have a right to privacy certain things are sensitive and not for other people to know.
Imagine if Royal Mail started opening all the letters to try and find criminal activity/dodgy goings on/personal information because a fractional percentage of the population use Royal Mail for an illegal purpose...
I do not expect VM to go through sniffing my packets and seeing what traffic is coming through my I.P address the same as I expect Royal Mail to deliver my letters in tact without reading the contents first.
Just because a small minority of users are involved in illegalities with p2p networks, doesn't give anyone the right to bully the rest of the populus into allowing their traffic to be monitored in the event they "MIGHT" be doing something illegal...0 -
I only looked in this thread cos I thought there might be information about virgins I could "use"
//me walks off disappointed
..as to the subject...never gonna work...LCD tvs are a fraction of the price they were 2 years ago..yet burglars still take them...most thieves don't steal because they can't afford..they steal because they can.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
Lol I aint paying for that crap, I'll stick with P2P thanks.0

"Your connection is slow because of people using p2p"
It's just ISP's making excuses for providing a poor service.
Much like PC game devs, who blame your computer spec for the poor performance, but 5years later on the latest tech PC it still doesn't run properly!
Anyway, you can't ban it.... it's like banning car's because a percentage of people drive over the speed limit. Totally ridiculous!
With software btw, you pay for the license/key and not the disk, just wanted to clear that up.Which manufacturers charge £30 to £90 for media for OSes which come licensed on the PC? Dell charge at most a fiver, but all the systems I've had it has been a free option.
Funny.... Dell was the last company I obtained a restoration disk from (they don't supply a proper OS disk), and that was £35+shipping (infact im sure it was more than that), for a 4 year old Dell GX280.
You have the right to ask for the disk at time of purchase, but once your warranty is out, you've no chance.
Unfortunately if your HDD dies, you won't be able to use the restore disks on a new drive unless it was supplied by Dell, same goes for most manufacturers now (which is why I have every version of 98, ME, 2000, XP and Vista, available to me).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

No it would be like policing the motorway with speed cameras... oh hang on, they already do that
(Banning cars would be akin to banning computers.)Strider590 wrote: »Funny.... Dell was the last company I obtained a restoration disk from (they don't supply a proper OS disk), and that was £35+shipping (infact im sure it was more than that), for a 4 year old Dell GX280.

Well, with experience I can state that for peanuts you can add a media CD to dell orders (I've ordered hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of Dell systems for clients over the years.) If you are requesting it later on, they they have a right to charge more, just like, to keep with your analogy, if 4 years later you return to the car dealer and want a new set of keys/codes for the central locking.
People confuse full installers with restoration discs. I've always had full installers from Dell, not restore CDs. Restore CDs will only restore the setup/config on the system they were supplied with, installers will work on any PC, providing you aren't breaching the licence agreement and the install matches the key you have.0 -
Aside from the previous comments, why pay VM for music when I can just use Spotify and legally listen to nearly anything I want... it's completely free (with the odd advert)0
