  • Thanks Nenen,
I will do that. There are a handful of images I have seen which are fantastic and I will show those to the photographer and see if he can replicate the style for us.I would like one in black and white with the low horizon with the dress picked out in colour, one of both of us in a doorway(very posed and arty),one of us with the castle in the distance(thats one he did).I have ideas I am sure he can handle as some of his images are fab and he is avery experienced photographer. He does tend to do more more traditional shots but he is easily capable of doing more great modern ones as he has a handful shown on his site already.

Got my first reply re string quartet already
£385 for 2 hours,quartet,£300 for trio for 2 hours,100 miles fom venue to some travelling expenses included
2nd response just dropped into my mail box
    £610 for 2 hours,quartet/£500 for 2 hours ,trio.Over budget so a definate no go.
    3rd quote
£500 for up to 3 hours,quartet/£460 for 2 hours. They are travelling a fair distance, about 140 miles each way and thats all included too.

3 quotes is enough I think. No need to wait for more as I am sure the first one is the best I would get anyway.I,ll just go for them and thats another job done.

What a nightmare, I know from previous posts it's something you had thoughtfully well planned, now this happens. It's late in the term but would it be worth contacting Dundee Uni to see if some of the students can help. Alternatively, what about a harpist, I think a harp in a castle would be amazing.

I did find a fantastic harpist ,the best on the planet I think,a year ago, alina from edinburgh, but OH says the harp hurts :rolleyes:his ears and its just a screech to him so we decided on the string quartet.I will look into the uni option too, thank you.

Where is the wedding? I can have a look and see what brass bands are near by if you're interested.. (I know its not everyone's cup fo tea but brass bands aren't all sally army style honest!).. my band could do it but we're not near Dundee (we are Ayrshire) so it would cost us to get there..

But a normal gig fee for 2 hrs wouldn't be £500 - we'd be nearer the 1st quote you got for about ten ppl. Less for a quartet - but then the reotoire is a bit more limited.. I'm not sure what other bands would charge tho..
  • Thanks kelda_shelton but we really are looking for a classical trio or quartet. Our venue is tiny and we are only having 12 people and 2 dogs so a brass band, although I do love band music and make a point of going into town when there is a public event on to hear them, would be too big for our needs.

    Violetta,
thanks for the uni idea and link.I contacted the head of the music dept and he has given me 2 contacts within the uni who play in string emsembles in my venue area.I have e-mailed both of them so am now just waiting on replies from 7 people.Wow,last time I searched I couldnt find that many to get quotes from.I am sure I will get a good one from 10 e-mails.

I didnt think of that. Also doing the speeches before dinner means that everyone, well most of us,will still be sober enough to make sense and read the speech notes.I can change it round,it was just nice to have some clarity re the order of things and get something down on paper at last .

    hi

there is no right or wrong way of doing things
just go with what your happy with

    also your flowers

dont have red and white together
my parents hired out weddings cars for years and they were told red and white flowers in the same bunch was bad luck for the bride
