One per person but like the other posters, bulked out with lots of veggies. I always serve 2-3 veggies per meal with rice/pasta/carb.

My understanding is a portion size of each type of food should be the size of your OWN fist.

No, that's for fruit and veg portions, not meat portions.

I regulary buy Sainsbury's frozen chicken portions & they last me a month or so.(missis is a veggie) Easy enough to remove the bone (stuffed & rolled a thigh today) & by boneing out you they are versatile.

a nutritionist told my daughter that a perfect portion of meat is the size of the palm of your hand! just hope your OH doesnt have hands like shovels! so one large pork chop is more than ample. my Oh usually has two unless they are really large chops and i have one small one -and as they always come in packs of four i get one to freeze for later and can accumulate enough for another meal.

A big oval plateful of what?

Or is it empty and that's why the meal works out so cheap? :p:D

Lol sorry was just out dishing up. Half each of a huge £1 Iceland pizza, oven chips (say 50p), a third of a gigantic Co-op cauli, on offer @ 80p so about 27p, big carrot say 10p, and to follow half a £1 Iceland lemon cheesecake.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Interesting to hear all this talk of "packs" of meat. I buy mine from a butcher.
    Freshly cut.

And I do make sure there are a least three potions of veggies on the plate too.

Tend to only eat red meat maximum twice a week.
We all evolve - get on with it

When working out for catering it's generally 4oz meat off the bone or 6oz on the bone per portion. Obviously there's a certain amount of variation in real life dependent on the individual and their lifestyle, but its the quality of protein that counts, not the quantity!

We play nice in here

back to the OP, I would do one chop, given the aforementioned guidelines on correct portions. I agree with the above poster, 1/4 meat 1/4 carbs 1/2 veg, being a nice easy way to work it out
  • I don't see how you can know without knowing what the chops weigh. One chop might be plenty if it were thick cut but two might be more appropriate if they were cut thin.
