Would you Lend a Stranger/Neighbour Your Lawnmower?

There is one I've seen 3x in the last 2 years, but now I won't as I will be at work all day, so gone from 7.30am to 6.30pm.Desperate_Housewife wrote: »If you see the council mower guys come round, offer him a tenner to go over the lawn.
I bought a lawnmower for 20p at a local jumble sale a few weeks ago and while its not the rolls royce of lawnmowers it does the job. Good luck
There is literally only one tiny strip of public grass on the whole estate.0 -
PaturesNew, your reply has made me feel a bit uncomfortable. As if you've been pushed to explain more than you should. Asking your original question, showed you were uncertain about speaking to your neighbour and without any replies you went and did it anyway.
C'mon peeps, back off a bit.0 -
I would have lent you my strimmer and my lawnmower because I'm a really nice person

That's the thing with this forum. You post the relevant bits about what you're asking and sometimes people really want to dig much deeper.
I think that's why some people admit to creating new identities on occasion for 'sticky' problems.
Well done for asking. She said no. Her choice. Having said that long grass can cause a problem to some mowers so not unreasonable IMHO.
My neighbour cuts my front lawn for me with his petrol mower while he's doing his own.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Yes, that's right.
Happens to me all the time though.0 -
I never lend and I never borrow from individuals.

The only thing i might borrow is money from a financial institution if the rate is right. That doesnt happen often as I'm loaded.0

If you've got long grass, I wouldn't have thought any electric mowers would cut it and most petrol mowers would really struggle. Your neighbour was right, you need to strim it first, let it dry out a bit and then cut it with some sort of mower.
So you need a strimmer and mower minimum to sort it out now and a mower to keep it short in the future.
You have no space to keep either.
Either find a neighbour with strimmer and petrol mower who won't mind doing it for a few squid, or bite the bullet and call in the LL, learn not to tidy the place up and I'm certain he won't be that bothered about it. I know you keep the places structure tidy, that's what he will be bothered about.
Or hire a strimmer to cut it down, then buy a cheap mower you can hang on a cupboard door or something like that.
Bare in mind though, generally the cheaper the mower the harder work it is to cut the grass. It depends how big your patch of grass is. I went through three 2nd hand mowers in a few months in my first house and that was with a relatively small lawn. If I'd have cut it more often it would have helped
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
How come you don't cut the grass yourself?
I'm not having a go, just can't understand if it's your lawn, why you don't have to tend to it.
ETA : I'd lend a neighbour our lawnmower, hedge cutter or strimmer and I'm positive my neighbours would do the same for me if mine weren't working.
I'm more inclined to do it for the neighbour that way I can ensure my lawn mower isn't broken and they don't electrocute themselves by cutting the cable.
Looks like PasturesNew is going to have to go to the local hire shop unless you can find an neighbour with a strimmer.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
