As some of you may know, I currently work in Customer Services for T-Mobile. We got told we were losing our jobs because they were moving to Manila in the Phillipines.
Then we get this slap in the face:

Can't believe it. Think it's time we boycotted this mobile network. I'm cancelling my contract with them (even though I get it half price).

has a concerned customer this is shame full and disgusting for the UK staff ,
never mind the pain it gives customer when they get problems with the language differences between areas .
we want UK call centres not overseas call centres and i am behind the UK staff fully ,there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
this is a joke, i cant believe after all the hassle the banks had in trasnferring call centres over seas they are still doing it now. Do they not learn0

To refuse us redundancy money is unbelievable because they are offering us jobs in Manila. It's not T-Mobile directly who are refusing us redundancy (as we work for TSC) but if T-Mobile kept the UK call centres then we wouldn't be losing our jobs in the first place!0

T-Mobile went downhill when ze Germans invaded the UK/One2One - after 5 years with T-Mob after its sell out standards year on year got more hiltler-esque & I left. Like 3 if I ever return it will be under another owner.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0

I'd take the job on same pay & relocation for anyone who can - you will live like a king over there.
Still T-Mob are now treating customers & staff alike, like the contents of a dogs poo poo bag. Disgusting !
If T think moving all these jobs to Manila will rebalance its cash flow they are wrong, it will hurt sales.
Orange started the pull back from offshore for the same reasons.
3 never made a profit in 6 years.
Voda maybe outsourced, but like o2 its still UK call centres.
T-wats....
More info ScotsChick ?
By the way if you are Glasgow way o2 & Voda payg are recruiting
Salary is better aswell
T-Mobile want staff in Manila ensuring standards from UK staff that know the product & the UK market, for those interested it's easier having held a job in Philo's to emigrate to AU, I'm sure going up the ladder in Manila is alot easier surrounded by monkeys, not exactly great redundancy but opportunity to get out of the UK is fantastic once in a lifetime, T-Mob will be paying your visa & relocation costs, from experience the Far East is a great place to live, much better than UK.
It's the best perk T-Mobile will give any employee, EVER. Because they have too......
"The move is being carried out under UK employment law TUPE — which was designed to PROTECT workers’ rights when their employer changes. It allows transferred staff to enjoy the same terms and conditions, with continuity of employment"
Shame it wont suit the large percentage of staff, a UK salary in Manila - where the T-Mobile staff member is the breadwinner they best go to massively raise the standard of lives for the whole family, it would take a minimum £60,000 in the UK to have the same standard of life (on a average full time employee) on £16,000 in Manila, that makes it even easier a decision if the breadwinner is a not the T-Mob staff member, wealth & standard of life before the main breadwinner takes up employment in Manila....
There is massive opportunity for staff here, they need to see it though........most people want out the UK & staff are being offered it on a plate.
I disagree where staff decline that NO redundancy should be paid.....T-Mob would be paying that out in flights alone before re-location expenses ?
Not much common sense in that decision........SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
We asked about relocation costs and they said they wouldn't be paying anything. Also, when we asked the consultation committee about actually moving over there, they said it's not possible as the call centre in Manila isn't even recruiting! They have got all their staff ready and trained for the switch over on 31st July.0

Think you will find relocation costs are 24/7's responsability ! Recruiting or not you are 24/7's employee from 31st July.
T-Mobile have took the mickey out of employees & 24/7, 24/7 has to pay the relocation or redundancy.....I can ensure you T would never have told 24/7 the full responsabilities as per UK law......just T's terms, or else 24/7 would have never agreed.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... Thanks for that link, will pass it onto others.0 -
I have visited the Philippines on business a number of times and its not a place I would choose to live - regardless of income. Its a far far different place to say, HK, Singapore or Malaysia.
About half the population live in absolute poverty, some actually live on rubbish tips. Crime is endemic in many areas (including where the better off live) and corruption is widespread. The country has been effectively bankrupt for years and most 'public services' are semi-functional at best. Its about the last place I would choose to emigrate to. The average British person would find it very tough to make the adjustment.0
