I bet bikered is sooo glad he asked for advice choosing between two different engines! I don't remember him/her asking about what car to get?!
Re the NOT RECOMMENDED FOR TOWING thing (pretty long winded passage there chippy!) - can only go on our experience - had NO problems towing a pretty heavy caravan and had proper towbar fitted for purpose (alco for alco hitch). Had NO problems with electrics either.0 -
Chippy_Minton wrote: »...'Official' removable towbars made by Brink are not factory fitted and connecting the electrics can be very problematic so X-Type NOT RECOMMENDED FOR TOWING.
Anyone any idea what this means?
Agreed, there are no factory fitted towbars available. (but then that's true of many car suppliers)
There are 'official' approved towbars that can be fitted as an aftermarket item. These will allow for connection of electrics via the 2 (or possibly 1, dependant on age of trailer) usual 7 pin connectors (12N and possibly 12 S), a newer iso 13 pin connector or possibly a 13 pin We St connector (rarely used in the UK)
If a person has a problem connecting these standard connectors, they shouldn't be towing using any car....Chippy_Minton wrote: »...Further problems include erratic slow running in traffic with poor engine response from low revs and lights dimming (both main and dipped beam) for no apparent reason. ...
Chippy_Minton wrote: »...Some of the first X Type diesels sold had similar problems to the Mondeo TDCI 130...
Not surprising as the very first x-type diesels were fitted with the Mondeo diesel engine.
But that was years ago. Jaguar now use different diesel engines to the initial one from the Mondy.
Chippy_Minton wrote: »...On four wheel drive 2.5s and 3.0s, the front tyres can wear unevenly to the extent of serious wear on the inner shoulders...
Again suggesting a very early model.
Initially the suspension was tuned to provide optimum ride & handling performance. However, this resulted in rapid front tyre wear. The geometry was revised soon after introduction to a much more 'straight' configuration, reducing tyre wear and not perceivably affecting ride and handling performance for over 99% of customers either because of their own driving capabilities or because of the intended use of the vehicle (on road)
Also you appear to have missed out half the report, here's the remainderWhat's Good
Engine range began with 195bhp 2,495cc Duratec V6 offering 180lb ft torque at 3,000rpm and 231bhp 2,968cc Duratec V6 with 210lb ft torque at 3,000rpm. Five speed manual and five speed automatic transmissions available with both engines. Performance of 2.5 manual is 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds, 140mph top speed, combined mpg of 29.5 and CO2 emissions of 234g/km which puts cars registered from 1st March into the £155pa VED bracket. 3.0 manual gets to 60 in 6.6 seconds, goes on to 146mph, delivers a combined mpg of 27.5 and emits 244g/km CO2 which puts it in the same £155pa VED bracket. On the Road List Prices, which include three year warranty, are: 2.5 V6: £22,000; 2.5 V6 Sport: £24,000; 2.5 V6 SE: £24,750; 3.0 V6 Sport: £25,500; 3.0 V6 SE: £26,250. Air-Conditioning, ABS, Alloy Wheels and All-Round Airbags standard on all models. Automatic Transmission is an extra £1,250, Dynamic Stability Control an extra £480, and Rear Parking Sensors an extra £310. 'Autocar' magazine scoop in issue 13/12/2000 showed 330bhp 155mph X-Type R to rival BMW M3, delayed by Ford cutbacks. Softish suspension allows car to handle really well without taking it into Mitsubishi Evo VI territory. 2.5 is smoother and sweeter than 3.0 litre but very obviously lacks the power of its bigger-engined brother. Manuals much better than automatics. But this is good car which is bound to be hugely successful. 2.1 litre front-drive only version from £19,995 from March 2002 puts out 156PS at 6,800rpm and 145lb ft torque at 4,100rpm. 0-60 8.9 seconds, top speed 130mph, combined consumption 30.7mpg and CO2 output 219g/km which gives it a BIK % of 26% costing a 40% taxpayer £2,080 for 2002-2003. 3 year UNLIMITED MILEAGE warranty on all new Jags sold by UK Jag dealers from 24-1-2002. Recognises when child seat fitted to front passenger seat and de-activates the airbag. Achieved an excellent four star rating for crash safety in 2002 NCAP tests. X Type V6 S anounced March 2003 at £20,995 with a lot of extras over the standard car. To get develpment of Mondeo 2.0 TDCI diesel engine early 2004. 130PS and 350Nm torque (258lb ft), emits 149g/km CO2, prices from £19,995. Funny how things turn out. My wife loved the Jaguar right up to the moment she sat in it. Then she hated it - too low and claustrophobic she though.
So after a quick tour around the local dealers (VW/Audi/Volvo) and she is now interested in the A4 estate - although she was also sorely tempted by an A6 Sportline estate fitted with the large 2.7 diesel. So now it's a case of deciding which engine to have in the Audi.
And yes, before any muppet pops up to say it, yes I do know it's just a posh version of the Passat or Skoda and as Scarlet O'Hara said "Frankly my dear...".0 -

Still never found a AWD Mondeo
care to share the model ?
Also the engine is not the same for example. so they are not taking out of a ford and using in a jag, they are using good parts, like a 3.0v6 engine, and making it better.
3.0 v6 mondeo 220 bhp
3.0 v6 Jaguar 240 bhp... difference down to tuning, and use of lighter aluminium parts.
Sorry but the finish in the jag is FAR superior to a mondeo, we have had them on fleet for 120k miles with no problems other than starter motor.
Id love to say the same about the mondeo, but can't, cause no one wants one.Plan

Still never found a AWD Mondeo
care to share the model ?...
Ford produced a limited number of Mondeo 4x4s in about 1995-1996; Si & Ghia models in both hatchback & estate variants (probably saloon too)
Of course this was a prior model to that which shares the floorpan design with the Jag.
I can't recall any modern Mondeos having 4x4, not mass produced ones anyway."Now to trolling as a concept. .... So your fleet manager bought some? Good decision
Afterall, they are the same as a Ford Mondeo according to one poster in this thread"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
