i cant believe people scrimp and save so much when it comes to putting decent food into your body.

I buy kellogs they arent expensive neither is Weetabix. It would make me feel crap keep buying value food all the time my body deserves more;)

Are you suggesting that all the brand names are actually better for your health? We had someone suggest similar on the Sainsburys 7p curry sauce thread, suggesting it must be bad for you at the price and I posted up the ingredients of that and the Sharwoods Tikka sauce that the poster suggested was 'better' for them - ingredients very similar but the really shocking result was that the Sharwoods sauce had almost 400% more fat in it!

Price doesn't necessarily equate to 'better' or 'healthier' - many brand names contain more fat/sugar/salt because it's what our palettes are used to tasting so therefore we 'think' it's better. Contained within the price you pay for the brand name is something that is not normally contained within the price you pay for the non-branded item - advertising costs. The company don't absorb these, they pass them onto the consumer, effectively charging you to keep that brand name to the front of your mind.

Conversely, I actually believe there are products in the supermarket's value range that are subsidised, therefore the people who buy the more expensive stuff with decent profit margins are effectively contributing to the baskets of value-conscious shoppers. It's a mad old world, isn't it?

  • I buy all my cereal from Aldi, i think they all taste fine. Probably not as cheap as supermarket value range but definitely cheaper than Kelloggs. I think the aldi weetabix taste exactly the same as the real ones.

1carminestocky -I absolutely agree. The reason that I buy Tesco value cornflakes for my rats is that they have less sugar and saturated fat in them than other brands.

I have a long long list of cereals that has been painstakingly put together by respected breeders - and the cereals that you would expect to be healthy are actually amongst the ones you should avoid.

Automatically assuming that something is better because it costs more just proves how well advertising works ;)

Anything non branded i have ever bought has never been as good its false economy and you end up throwing it away for example fairy is the best liquid if you buy a cheaper brand then you end up using more and the bubbles dont last.

Soap is awful and makes a mess everywhere. Crisps are bland and no taste . Toilet paper is thin and smaller sheets. Orange juice is watery and tasteless! You get what you pay for in anything in life. Its not rocket science its fact brander stuff is better.

Alot of people do buy value stuff to save money i think its tight sorry there are other ways to save money in life why cut down on food. How many people who buy value then go and buy fags and booze which they dont need.

I would be so embarrassed to go to a till with all value stuff. Never would. Sorry.

 Why would you be embarrassed? I genuinely don't understand.

I buy value food, shop in charity shops and none of it ever bothers me. Having to use a walking stick and a shopping trolley on wheels at the age of 29 is a little embarrassing at times but not buying cheap food.

I have to admit to spending a lot of money on 100% pure, natural toiletries though. Definitely in that instance I choose not to use chemical brands as my skin just can't take. But it is not snobbery - it is because I have to.

The amount of bubbles have no bearing on the effectiveness of washing up, BTW. And don't apologise; I'm glad there are people like you in the World - it just makes my shopping cheaper, lol. Keep getting ripped off if it makes you feel superior...
