Cornflakes Brands - Good Value?

I usually buy kelloggs cornflakes but they are pricey, I looked to see what people thought on the sainsbury's basic range of cornflakes, some people said they were good and others thought they were terrible..
Has anyone got any recommendations of which cornflakes would be good value for money or maybe kelloggs will do an offer sometime soon!

for me personally, i dont normally bother with brands, but if i buy cornflakes, it has to be kelloggs, nothing else i have tasted comes anywhere near, the same with coca cola it has to be the real stuff, not shop own brand as that is disgusting, and i hate pepsi, but those are the only 2 brands i will speciffically buyTake every day as it comes!!0 -

We are split on this one - I'm perfectly happy with basics cornflakes, my wife still eats Kelloggs (she has always been a Kelloggs girl, lol). It's an OK compromise as we are still effectively getting our breakfast much cheaper than previously (on account of us both invariably eating them most mornings for breakfast and the basics ones being less than a quarter of the price of the Kellogg's ones and now they even come in a box!). I guess for the princely sum of 46p for 500g what's to lose in trying them?

Sainsburys own brand cornflakes are really good, and pretty cheap in the big boxes, but I'd not recommend the basics ones. Very weird flavor (popcorn-like) and not very crisp either.
They're one of a few basics items that are bad. Otherwise the basics range is good.0 -
We bought the Tesco "discount brand" ones - called "Country Barn". We bought them for the rats but hubby ended up having a bowl and we were both amazed because they taste almost exactly like Kelloggs!
Definitely worth a shot - they're 79p for a big box and if you don't like them the birds will eat them!

We have either tesco or sainsburys cornflakes, they are no different to kelloggs. My daughter refused to eat them at first because they were not in a kelloggs box she said they tasted yuck, so I put them into an old kelloggs box and she said that they were lovely. I have let her in on my trick now, and she still likes them.0

Got to say I find the real Kellogs ones unbeatable
(although someone will probably tell me that the 'x' store ones are better I won't believe them lol!).Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Kelloggs bigger boxes are much better value for money than the smaller ones so I buy the biggest I can find.
The best of the supermarket own brands IMO are Morrisons, I prefer these to Kelloggs but no Morrisons near me any more these days.0 -
I am a huge lover of cornflakes and have tried most of them.
I only ever buy kelloggs if they are on offer as i cannot justify spending that amount on a cereal.
I actually think the sainsburys basic version are fabulous and such good value at 46p or about, i find them really light and crunchy at the same time:D
The worst i have ever come across has to be the tesco value ones, they are really orange and hard and slightly chewy, but the tesco own brand version are a lot better.
I actually had the sainsbury's basics this morning and could eat another bowl now.:rotfl::j:j:j0 -
i think the value cornflakes are dire...might be worth trying the store own brand to see what they are like ...someone mentioned aldis are nice but i havent tried themonwards and upwards0

Thanks for all your replies, I wonder if I should take it one step at a time and try the Tesco or Sainsbury's own branded ones first? I think I also read somewhere that M&S ones were tasty..
Decisions, decisions, I'm not the type of person that will buy something just do to the brand name, but there is nothing worse than soggy cornflakes :rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
