You all seem to know each other very well, I guess that's what's kept me off.
Lots of talk about marathons and stuff. Just visited the running thread as well. I don't think I've ever run more than 5k, but would like to do 10k once. Marathons, don't think I'm that fussed.:oDEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0 -
Yes I am, you wanna come do it with me? I've started a training plan this week which is for 12 weeks, but the marathon is in about 15 or 16 weeks I think, so just going to bimble along and hope I make it.
I'm going to do it for Breakthrough Breastcancer so will be setting up my page and sticking it on my profile soon, hoping that someone might feel sorry for me and sponsor me
MARATHON?!? You go girl!!
i thought you said half!
impressed smilies over here too!
Even if i don't run anything that day, me n beanie might make a day trip of it and come cheer you on!
Luc - it is the 4th october actually........
i'm considering the fresh n lo glasgow half mara rather than loch ness (not both!), which is september as it would be a wider field and more scope for not being last....I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Guys have you seen the profile of LN mara

Downhill = not good for the shins and knees after 20 miles and that hill at 18 is cruelty...
Enjoy!
Oh Maz there's no half - just the marathon and the 10k...
I just clicked the link and thought - whats up with that its downhill...then I read the rest of the post....:rotfl:surely its got to be better than uphill:rolleyes:Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

Depends - you have to train specifically for downhill sections in races - you need to make sure you dont hurt yourself running them at speed, I think some of the mara is trail as well...
You can see by last years winning times that its slower than London for example - yes uphill is tough on the lungs and strength, but downhill puts more stress on the joints and considering how much stress you put on them over 26 miles anyway - lets just say its a tough course
Good luck to anyone doing it!0
