OH got all keen this morning and did his washing (including pair of 'work' jeans) using soapnuts. He didn't add anything else and the washing looks ok to me and no unusual pong either. Mind you he has other 'work' jeans that are more than likely ina worse state than the ones he's just done so I'll know better when they've been washed.

Hi just wondering if anyone has used soapnuts for their washing. I am looking to save money and thought that this might help. Would be interested in feedback and where to buy and if they are in fact any good.

    Thanks

    Hiya, :)

I've added your post onto an earlier thread about soapnuts.

You'll need to read from the beginning to catch up :)

    Good luck :)

Is there a recommended temperature for using soapnuts or can you use them at all temperatures? Do they work as well at low temperatures as high ones? Can you use them with cold water successfully?

If you go to the first post on this thread there's a link to the site telling you all about them. It says 40degree wash is preferable x

    Hi,
I have just received my delivery of soapnuts. Had 2 successful washes come out of the machine, nice and clean and soft!
I have read that soap nut shampoo is very good for sensitive scalps, dandruff and headlice. I have made some up and i wondered how much you needed to use, as its rather like pouring water over your head, as it doesnt thicken.

If anyone could give me any advice it would be great!

    many thanks

  • Boil 100g of soapnuts in four pints of water for half an hour. When its cool remove the soapnuts and you have soapnut shampoo.

hi thanks for your replies, I have already made a batch, but i was wondering how much to use for each hairwash?I have looked through all the old threads. Its hard to guess as it obviously feels just the same on your head as when you just wet it, as it is just like water, no lather. I dont want to go using too much as it wont be saving me any money!!!

We use soapnuts but I'd never thought of using them as a shampoo. Once you''ve made a batch what do you store it in ? The only bottles I've got are ordinary shampoo ones and I wouldn't be sure of getting out all the remains of what was in it.
