  • I have sent of for a free sample but thought I would check with my washing machine manufacturer (Miele) whethere they were suitable for use in their machines or not. They said they would not recommend them, has anybody had problems with their machines caused by the soapnuts or is a conspiracy by machine manufacturers?

This may be beacuse after a while of using this kind of product you can get a build up of mould/mildue in the machine. Easily sorted by doing a service wash every so often by using cheap bio powder on a hot wash.
There might be another reason but I can't think of one.
As has been said somewhere, you can probably get as good a wash using just water as it's the heat of the water and action of the washing machine that do the work - stain removers for anything a bit tougher. I've gone back onto using a tiny amount of ecover powder as it wasn't getting sweat smell out of some clothes.

I think with soap nuts you do need to pre-treat stains. Could that be the problem?

It is not even stains it is just general dirt that clothes get.

Bought my Mum some of these for Mothers Day so i'd be interested to find out if she's used them yet and if they work!

    Hi petef,

I've merged your thread with the main thread on soapnuts where hopefully you'll find some help.

  • I've been using soapnuts for a couple of months now & find that they've been brilliant for removing stains & smells (including my whiffy gym clothes)....perhaps because I add some borax as well? Also, I put around 10 drops of essential oil in the bit where the fabric softener would normally go & it all comes out smelling lovely.
I also get about half a dozen washes out of approx 8 soapnuts.

I understand Napisan is sodium perborate, wondering if that is the same as the Ecover bleach and how they compare cost wise. I think Napisan is about £2.20?
I have no idea how much Ecover is.

    Ecover is slightly more here.
