Hi, I didn't have the "bits" but I did notice stains on the bedding when I started using soapnuts which are yellowy too.

Mine have never washed out but I don't use soapnuts anymore, just balked out washing powder.

I'd try to brush the bits off and wash again, if it helps I always wash my bra's and tights inside pillowcases.
The bits don't brush off, they are VERY firmly stuck on ...

I suppose I should be grateful it's only the inside of my bra, and not all the school shirts! :rotfl:

I just wondered how everyones getting on with their soapnuts (the ones who ordered them). I'm still only a quarter of the way through mine although I have noticed I have to add a bit of washing powder on some clothes (like the kids PE kits and thing like that).

Are you still using yours or have you gone back to powder?

I've gone back to *bulked out powder I'm afraid.

I used the net bags in the end which you put tablets in, as mentioned above. Its a great idea and I would have liked to use somthing natural.

Once or twice I have to say the clothes didn't smell clean. I don't mean fancy perfume smell but well you know.....

Also whe the clothes came out of the machine, bits of soapnuts would end up on the floor so out came the dustpan and brush.

I didn't get on in the end I'm afraid.

*Decent stuff and smart price or whichever

I tried soapnuts but now use eco balls

https://www.summernaturals.co.uk has free postage on the balls at the moment

There is also free 50g offer on 500g of soapnuts - and loads of other natural and cost effective methods of laundry and cleaning.

Right the nasty chemical shampoos are all gone, I have some soap nuts, does anyone know how to use these for shampoo, I know it is possible as I have heard it mentioned but no idea how and would like to try it, because more enviro friendly shampoos are expensive.

    Any help appreciated.

  • Soap Nut Juice

Pour approx 1 litre of water into a cooking pot; add about 50g cracked soap nuts; cover and boil, then simmer for approximately 10 minutes. The boiling process extracts the saponin from the nut shells and combines with the water. Let the infusion cool and you can use it immediately, or let it steep overnight. The soap nut infusion is theoretically suitable for every kind of cleaning - even wash your car with it!

100 grams of soap nut will make approximately 2 litres of Soap Nut Juice.

Soap nut juice can be used for many purposes. Laundry (approx. 3 tablespoons full per laundry load)

In your dishwasher (approx. same amount & you can use vinegar instead of rinse aid)

    Your floors

    Bathroom

    -> Instead of shampoo <-

Use as window cleaner together with vinegar (2 tablespoons Soap Nut! Juice to 3 tablespoons vinegar).

When you think you've extracted all the saponin, throw the Soap Nuts! in the blender with a bit of water and you'll have a wonderful 'liquid' soap for the hand basin. Leave the shells in to get the exfoliating effect after blending - add essential oils if you wish.

    From this site.

(I have not tried this product myself, but it sounds intriguing!)

  • If ordering Soapnuts, add a comment to your order asking them to send you a soapnut for planting. Then you can try growing your own! :)

  • I received my soap nuts today and have done 2 washloads with them. One included a stained white towel, and the other included my yucky oven glove. They came up well-tho they say they dont apparantly remove stains they do wash well and that was at 40 deg and 30 deg. I am pleased with this. In the bag are a couple of nuts so I will indeed try planting them. I got 500g for £5 plus £2.88 p+p . I got mine from ebay-couldn't find a better deal. Tied them in a pop sock as no bag supplied with 500g size. Anyone want details I also have phone no and email for this supplier.
