Don't have a tumble drier. Looks like I may have to get some new towels. Come to think of it, he has been using some of them when he goes to play squash since I met him about 14 years ago! They get washed every week as he only uses them once.0

I have never used fabric conditioner and i dry my towels indoors on a dryer. I have never had a problem with them being hard.0

I'm dead-set on getting a hold of these and using them now. Our washbasket is like the tardis!! I never get to the bottom of it and I loathe spending so much on washing powers and FC. Thanks to everyone for all the advice about whitening, stains etc.
There's a 1KG bag on eBay for £20, how long do you think it'd last? Because I have no idea!! Does anyone get any cheaper?1 John 4: 7 & 80 -
Hi
I've just purchased some soapnuts (They're FAB and would like to thank you all for telling me about them!) and some soda crystals (I've also read alot about them here). Is it right that I should use both together? I remember reading something about it but I could have the wrong end of the stick totally!! Also, can I use them on a hot wash to clean out my WS? Any other tips for both would be great
Thanks in advance :beer:1 John 4: 7 & 80 -
hi, ive been using soapnuts for about 2 months, they are great, however im going to start to use them on dark washes only, the reason being the whites start to look very dull after a while. This is normal as there is no bleach in the soapnuts. I have 2 kids in white shirts and polo shirts that get very grubby and are now looking very dull. I do soak stuff with stains in soda crystals first but find its still not enough on my 5 year olds very dirty shirts. Im going to make up my own washing powder mix for whites and still use soap nuts on the rest of the washing.0

I was told by a lady I know (she works for one of the major manufacturers of washing powder and is a scientist for them!), that when you buy white clothes it is best to wash them before wearing them, as something in the wp makes them more impervious(think thats the right word) to stains.
Perhaps when you buy a new white shirt, socks or polo shirt, you could try it??HTH Mind you if you are using soap nuts it may not work, but if you are going to use wp for your whites, it is worth a go.:)Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Hello all,
Im using soapnuts and am pleased with the results, along with soda crystals and white vinegar.
However, the sopanuts I bought came with a little cloth bag. Well the bag opens whilst in the washing machine and the nuts end up within the seal of the door.
I know that if you don't get the cloth bag with your order, you can use an old sock, has anyone used one and do they still work as well.
Does the soap part still come through the sock and do what its meant to do?0 -
I use an old sock and it works just fine.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

A knotted sock works fine Linda. For obvious reasons an old odd white sock is preferable although it will get a bit greyish after dark loads!!:DYou never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

I used a sock with my trial soapnuts & it worked fine but now I am using the cloth bag & I tie it shut with the drawstrings.
