Having used these for a few weeks, I think they're great on colours but not that wonderful on whites. (Though I'm used to using a biological powder for whites.)

I live in a hard-water area (South Staffs Water) and can hardly see any suds in the machine even using 8 half shells, but then suds doesn't necessarily equal clean!

Have to say I do think the clothes felt slightly softer using my old sensitive skin fabric conditioner, but appreciate that wasn't made from totally natural ingredients.

Would I buy some in the future? Absolutely! But I'd still have some bio powder too for tough stains. :)

Mine arrived yesterday & though I usually do the wash overnight on economy7 I had to do a load in the day just to see if there were any suds!
I put 6 half shells in & was really pleased to find that they worked (I'm in a soft water area)
DS2 said he prefered the scent too (used lavender essential oil, 8 drops as conditioner)
Think I'll have to use bio still for heavily stained clothes but I am really happy with the soapnuts & it will save me a lots of money :)

After several weeks of using my new soapnuts I have noticed that my towels, socks and some other items are getting quite hard. Any ideas for softening them? The soapnuts leaflet says that they should condition the items as well as wash them. Also, my husbands white sports socks are not looking so bright, as are the armpits of his shirts, and this has never happened before.

That's a shame - I've just ordered my trial of them :( Could you try adding some soap crystals to the wash for the cleaness issue. Adding fabric conditioner seems to somewhat defeat the object doesn't it?

White vinegar is a good softener and if applied to the offending sweat stain, removes any stains and lingering smell:j

Washing powders contain bleaching agents and optical brighteners to keep your whites white so perhaps you should go back to powder for your whites wash and just use your soapnuts for darks/coloureds.

this is happening to me too, i think thats because for quite a few washes you will still have powder in your pipes and now this is all gone, you are soley relying on the soapnuts.

I have bought a small bottle of liquid detergent and am putting one tiny capfull in with the wash, this is helping.

I tried adding soda crystals but the sweat etc was still not coming out unfortunately.

I am still using fabric cond, as i still have lots.
    Pawpurrs x ;)
