Update on my soapnuts....Ive used them twice so far, and as far as i can tell theyre doing their job.
Its proving really hard for me tho to leave all the lovely smelling washing powders alone i must say, and am compromising by letting myself keep my Lenor!!! lol"IM JUST SITTING HERE WATCHING THE WHEELS GO ROUND AND ROUND, I REALLY LOVE TO WATCH THEM ROLL. NO LONGER RIDING ON THE MERRY-GO-ROUND. I JUST HAD TO LET IT GO"0 -
Hello htere, have just got my soapnuts and feeling a bit nervous - I've seen some people say they add essential oils. Dumb question - where do you put a few drops - in your drawer? do I need to worry about the oil marking? Thanks, once I know what to do will give it a go.I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!0

Just investigating the possibility of using these instead of powder as we currently use the stores own version of Ecover Biological (which seem to be the only powders that don't cause hubby's eczema to flare up these days), so these would massively reduce one of my/our bills.
But I noticed on the site where you buy them it "suggests" using them on a 40 degree wash - which means that while my soap powder bill shrinks my electricity bill goes up, as we currently wash everything on a 30 degree wash
So my question is, has anyone used these at a lower temperature than 40 -- and if so, are you happy with the results? (We're a hard water area if that makes a difference to the results of doing so)
Many thanks in advance for any feedbackCheryl0 -
Hi - I've been using soapnuts for about three weeks now and I'm really happy with them. I wash most things on 30 degrees but, since I read somewhere that you should do a 'maintenance' wash at a higher temperature once a week (because 30 doesn't kill the germs that lurk in a washing machine), I use that higher wash, 60 degrees, for washing towels and teatowels.
I tried using oil when I first used the soapnuts (you put it in the conditioner drawer) but I found an oil stain on a skirt. It came out in the next wash but I haven't used oil since then. I'm still not sure if it was the oil that did it but I didn't want to risk it on more important things!
My DH is really impressed with the soapnuts because they leave the clothes so much softer, give good cleaning results (so far!), are cheap and can be thrown on the compost heap once all the soap has been used. I find that a bag with about 8 soapnuts in it will do about 7 washes. I still have some soap powder to use up but, once that box has gone, I won't buy it any more.

I have posted details of a great special offer (well I think its great) on the Soapnuts thread.
Just wanted to draw attention to it - hope you don't mind ModsOnly I thought it might get missed as its quite a long thread. xx
Stop looking for answers....
The most you can hope for are clues.....:)0 -
Mine should be on the way (I hope) -- I ordered the £10.30 batch on 25th September, and was really hoping they'd be here by now
(And each time I've done some washing I've been holding some back until they come, so I can test them straight away -- sad or what?)

Now that this has fallen from the front page of Old Style, I'll add it to the main soapnuts thread, and merge your 2 posts

Ahha - InaSoapNutShell have finally cottoned on to the fact that Soapnuts from Salveo.co.uk were cheaper. I think they have price matched, though tried to be clever with the quantity!
IMHO, the soapnuts from Salveo are better quality, much more sticky stuff on them.
Still a good find though! If I had a pound for every...... oh sod it, if I just had a pound I'd be richer!0
