Doing ipconfig /all on the laptops will show you which DNS servers they are using. Post the IP, gateway, subnet and DNS here for the laptops so we can compare to the desktop ones you gave us earlier.0

Having had the update window open i clicked to install a number of windows updates which were important and one which was optional for belkin router. Downloaded fine and said was restarting to install updats since then its been an hour and a half and all i have is a black screen the light is on the base unit so it has not totally shut down and may still be installing or has crashed any ideas as to what to do next?
The last time this happened i ended up having to reinstall windows vista as the whole system had crashed i dont want to do anything hasty.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

If you move the mouse or press a key on the keyboard does anything appear on screen ?
I think you'll have to hold down the power button until it powers off properly then turn it back on. An hour and a half sounds like something has gone wrong.0 -
No absolutely nothing comes on the screen and if i hold power button in to restart it will crash pc i did that last time and lost everything on the pc.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

If absolutely nothing is happening and it's now been about 2 hours then your only is option is to power off. Windows should be able to recover from failed updates but this isn't always the case. Did it actually install any of the updates before it went black ?0

It came up windows needs to shut down and restart for updates to take place, the desktop items flashed and screen went black like is does but it never came back on with the percentage page.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

You're going to need to power it off. If it's been this long with absolutely no response it's going to be your only choice. How often have you had this issue doing Windows updates ?0
