Hehe yeah it's not bad as Sheffield hills go is it?Talking of which I am having day after the day after tight muscles having run up a particularly steep one on Monday - ouch! Gentle few miles tonight to try and loosen everything off I think.

I dont think they will ever enforce it fully - although more races are doing so (some people have actually been disqualified now - allowed to finish but not awarded a time).
I think if its on roads or pavements then yes they should be banned, dont have a problem in big races where roads are closed as lnog as they dont run out in front of me - that and people stopping dead ahead are the worst things about races...barrelling into someone full speed is annoying - I get enough of that with tourists on my regular runs dont need it in races too0 -
Sorry Bagpuss - thought Linda had answered you...
Um nothing too strenuous but a nice slow long run is fine on Saturday, the week of the race short 3-4 miles every other day is fine
Its just run as you feel now - take it nice and easy and try to keep the muscles unstiff for a week on Sunday! The Saturday before the race - try to do as little as possible i.e. no 5 mile walks or anything!
No need to carb load for a half so just eat normally, but again the night before the race stay clear of red meat (I usually eat fish or no meat at all) and spicy food - both take a long time to digest and have a habit of 'revisiting' you during the race! Also I dont eat before a half, but others do - if you're going to have brekkie on race day make it as early as possible (say 5-6am) so you're not digesting it when running (as that diverts oxygen away from the lungs)
Anymore q's just ask
Hehehehe, she did answer me but it's nice to get seasoned experience from a few different people. I think the Sat before I might mosey on down to the Expo. I was intending to have some porridge around 6am the morning of the race but I'll see if my nerves will allow that to happen!
My legs are were still achey and sore yesterday but feel a bit better today so I'm aiming to do 1 lap of Sundays route i.e, 6 miles and then will do something at the gym on Thurs or Fri and then another long run on Sat.Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.0 -
Nerves are bad - they waste glycogen - I like to lie down before my races and only get in the pen as close to start time as possible - usually helps to keep me relaxed0

Oh yeah....1616, although had 300 for the Ufdance (which was great because the marshalls had lists of numbers and that was an easy one to pick out, so got lots of support:D) and 555 for Dewsbury 10K so they are probably the best numbers this year....better than the non-entity 2058 this coming Sunday!
Not as cool as the time just over an hour ago though ... 09:09:09 on 09/09/09Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I usually run on my own with my ipod in, but I think with the GNR there's no need anyway. 54,000 people and there's lots of distractions along the route so I'm told! I'd already been warned about the loo roll, I'll have tissues / wet wipes with me! We're going to get the Metro into town and then soak up the atmosphere I hope!Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.0
