Went out this morning to join the half-marathon training group of my running club. I hadn't bargained on the fact that they have been gradually building up their time on the road over the last few weeks, so we did 11.5 miles in around 1:53. Since I've been a lazy bones since Prague, this was the furthest I've run since my marathon and boy did I feel it! We did an out-and-back including some serious hills (well, not that serious to you Rich ;)) and I had real jelly-legs on the return leg. That will teach me for thinking I'm still fit :o. I had to walk for a bit - how embarassing.

At least it got me up and out there, and now I have that virtuous smile on my face. OH is even worse than me fitness wise, as he really hasn't done anything since Prague, so he struggled round 6 miles this morning in about 50 minutes. He's desperate to shed some of the pounds he has put on recently, so the training will help.

Just booked my place on the running weekend - Whitby Backpackers Hostel. What luxury! :D I'm really looking forward to it. Also just about to enter the Great Cumbrian Half Marathon (25th October) as run club are doing free transport there & back. Should be a good atmosphere too.

Evab - hope you get out tomorrow. Teething is awful, there's not a lot you can do for them is there?

Rich & Becky - well done on this morning's park run. Progressive improvement for both of you.

Me and OH Jonathan & for the girls, the back of my dress. There were rumours that I had my trainers on underneath the frock, but I assure you I didn't ;).

Hello peeps! I've just looked at my calendar and the Great North Run is now 6 weeks away!

And the furthest I've done so far (back in April btw!) is 10K :eek:

I need to get my finger out don't I!!:eek::eek:

Off to the gym now to do 5 miles today, and then I've put my name down to go to a running club for the first time since I was about 12 next Tuesday as I am finding it really hard trying to make myself run on my own. I need a serious boot up the backside
Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.

    Consider yourself booted Bagpuss!

I run with a club as well. Sometimes (when I'm feeling really lazy) the only thing that gets me out of the door is the social aspects of group running. When I'm there of course, I always enjoy the run.

Good luck next Tuesday, I'm sure they'll be a friendly bunch.

  • You look fantastic Chick; the dress is lovely!! Hope your jelly legs have recovered after this morning's run.

Well done on your PB Rich and the negative splits Becky. :D

Enjoy the bbq evab; hope you get the chance to catch up your sleep soon ;)

Let us know how you get on with the running club k_bagpuss; it's something I'm considering for the winter months but I'm not sure how I'd feel running with other people

I have a few routes round my way that are in the figure of an 8, therefore i can do many laps, or varient of laps. Ill do a 10k then start on the figure of 8 laps, as i know its not far from my house. I can put in an extra lap, which then makes it 8miles, then another one, which is then 10miles.

I think mentally running out & back is harder than round the a block a few times as round the block your never more than 5mins away from walking home.

    Try it.

Also, where are you staying for the Run, were staying in Durham and getting the train up on the sunday.

Hope to get out tomorrow and put in 8 miles plus tomorrow. Hoping to knock out a 10miler, as im away on airshows next weekend (eastbourne) so more beer than miles unfortunately.
