Perhaps the 100 mile world record might be to your liking too at 11:30:51?

6:54/mile for 100 miles. It has stood since 1977 so is sorely in need of an Idio correction!:D

Nah, 6:54's not a bad pace. We'll start with the nice gentle 1000 and move on from there, I reckon.

I was talking about the 1000 mile pace, not the 100!!!!:p So 15min/mile...you can manage that over 1 mile I reckon at a push!;)

    - the problem we have is when a nice club standard race is taken over by people who want to walk it in a silly costume for cancer (or whatever) - which race organisers could get over of course by imposing sensible time limits - like 2:30 for a half and 5:30 for a mara - now thats not quick by any means but requires some training for :D

Take the Sale 10 - I would have been near the end of the field had I finished it - I find that great to see all these really experienced runners - so I'm a begginer but they dont treat me with any less respect and you get this amazing sense of how good you can be with training in races like that. Rather than just settling for being 'good enough'.

Sorry ending rant now and going away to drink coffee and do more work :D

Becky - there was a 3 hour cut off at the Stur Half on Sunday and I didn't see a single silly costume (except for two guys dressed as clowns who were handing out water??). 416 people completed the race with the last person coming in at 2.47.05 so the cut off time worked and seemed to deter walkers and the untrained.

I came 367th out of 416 (or 98th out of 129 ladies) so very near to being last but that didn't matter and I wasn't made to feel out of place at any stage of the race. I think that I just got lucky with my choice of race. :D

evab - I'm a southern softie and that hill looks scary
