May be I am indeed gullible or maybe not... I still prefer to believe people are genuine until I find otherwise.
It's not a case of being gullible or taking people to be genuine.
It's a case of providing advice based purely on the information provided by the OP. If that information is limited or biased or provides only one side of the story, then any advice offered is obviously similarly restricted (could this be any more obvious?)
Trying to guess the OPs exact situation is futile and belongs to the fantasy realms of Sherlock Holmes or astrology. Others shoring up their inadequacies by trying to 'sniff out a rat' so they can award a self-congratulatory 'pat on the back' similarly helps no one.
Neil B has provided his opinion based on the information at hand and I'm sure that's exactly what the OP was hoping for. I'm also fairly sure the OP didn't expect to be turned on and accused of lying, questioned about why they posted or have the quality of their driving criticised!
Some questions on this forum come from complete muppets, but I really don't think the OP comes into this category or deserves to be treated like one, and neither does Neil B.0 -
I also find it amazing that there are so many posts on MSE where everyone automatically assumes the OP is lying. We never know for sure if a post is the whole truth or not, all we have to go on is what has been posted and the default reaction should be to believe it unless and until there is some glaring mistake in it. I see nothing unbelievable about the information posted so far.
I can't imagine going in to work, saying I went to the seaside at the weekend, and then being accused of lying about it! The default is to believe people, unless what they are saying is unbelievable and unless they trip up and prove inconsistent.
I can understand that people don't want to help people who are trying to defraud or get out of something. But advice given to a genuine problem probably wouldn't work for someone who is lying. In the OP's case she should document that her car and the neighbour's car have no damage. If OP is telling the truth, the neighbour has no case then. If OP is lying, the advice is useless and won't help her get out of paying.0 -
Exactly, why do we always assume the worst? I would hate to face these people in a court, where they were on a jury, you would be sent away for years as an innocent person!0

It does seem to contradict the idea of a 'help' forum. Who is helping what exactly.
On other forums the rule seems to be simple. Don't be judgemental. If you don't like what an OP says don't post and don't help.
On here it seems to go beyond judgemental. All the numpties that do it don't seem to click that their replies are an indication of their own poor standards and dishonesty.
It's tolerated for some wierd reason? Site owners get a grip!0 -

OP is there an update on this, you would know if you had hit another car, is there any damage to your car0

HAH! Not always so.
Was at my friends place..he had a Xsara (the car, not the people carrier). We were having a cuppa, then his alarm went off. We ran out to see !!!!!! was going on..the car was bottomed out on the suspension with a RANGE ROVER rear sat on the bonnet!
Old bloke driving it had reversed in, and the Xsara being a farly wedge-shaped front, he's managed to reverse UP the damn bonnet! And no, he hadn't noticed...god knows how. I know air suspension is good, but..THAT good?
The guy was as shocked as us, to be fair...0 -

a) it wasn't initially aimed at you.
b) ther you go making assumptions again. Four *s to play with and you decide on an F?
c) It was aimed at posts I felt were seriously offensive towards the OP in the first place, accusing him/her of being a liar and for no apparent reason. The subsequently offered explanations were nonsense - that he/she should post to deliberately mislead and gain something??
I just don't get the negativity. i shouldn't but i can't help pointing out that the majority agree?
As for the OP - well, we can't tell now can we.
Either they are very rude and can't be bothered to clarify or they have been put off by the whole debacle -- or of course, something else, keeping an open mind.

You are, however, starting to convert me. I'm beginning to take a similar stance - that I really don't give a ****.
